Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Project Engineer (m/f/d) to join our team in Hamburg. In this key role, you will be responsible for the customization and delivery of cutting-edge automation systems for commercial vessels, with a strong focus on retrofit projects. You will play a crucial part from presales through to final project handover, collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, secure, and efficient automation solutions.
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, design, and program automation systems tailored to vessel-specific requirements, using NACOS Marine’s proprietary software tools
  • Customize software and databases by integrating vessel-specific values, signals, and parameters
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including functional descriptions, test protocols, I/O lists, and drawings for approval by vessel owners and shipyards
  • Test and debug systems and functionalities during engineering and participate in in-house Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal stakeholders such as Project Managers, Technical Support, Field Service, Sales, Spare Parts, and Logistics to ensure smooth project execution
  • Provide technical advice on design changes, support problem resolution, and proactively assist colleagues with quality or design issues
  • Support planning of project scopes to balance stakeholder expectations and deliver high standards of quality, cybersecurity, and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific and internal quality and security procedures

Role Requirements
  • Technical education in marine engineering, automation technology, electronics, or a related field
  • Multiple years of relevant work experience in automation or control systems
  • Familiarity with SCADA/SRO systems, IEC 61131-3 languages, and standard communication protocols (Modbus, CANbus, IEC61162)
  • Working knowledge of platform equipment (pumps, valves, switchgear) and design tools (AutoCAD, Eplan, SolidWorks)
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 and able to work effectively across teams
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Team-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn new technologies
  • Proficiency in German, both written and spoken (C1 level preferred)

Skills Required
