OVERVIEW: The Product Engineer – Control Panels & Incoming Line Cubicles leads the hardware design, technical specification development, and complete lifecycle engineering of electrical control panels and incoming line cubicles. This role balances new product engineering with a critical strategic initiative to modernize, digitalize, and standardize legacy product documentation and bill of materials (BOMs). This full-time role is based in Mansfield, Ohio, working closely with, and reporting to, the Site Engineering Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:                           
  • Design and develop control panels and incoming line cubicles in accordance with customer requirements, company standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Produce and maintain electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Define panel architecture, component selection, busbar systems, protection schemes, and control philosophies.
  • Lead the modernization and standardization of legacy product documentation, converting historical drawings, manual records, and obsolete schematics into current CAD and document management systems.
  • Validate, correct, and upgrade historical BOMs, technical manuals, and configurations to ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Identify obsolete electrical components within heritage designs and recommend approved, modern replacements.
  • Support the migration of legacy product data and structural revision controls into PLM, ERP, and engineering databases.
  • Analyze customer specifications, tender documents, and technical requirements to generate engineering solutions, technical queries, and deviations.
  • Provide direct technical support to manufacturing, testing, and assembly teams to resolve shop-floor design issues and non-conformities.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), quality inspections, and develop functional, dielectric, mechanical, and protection system test procedures.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Tendering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, and Service teams to support design reviews, customer meetings, and site commissioning.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, hardware design, and product lifecycle management for power distribution equipment.
  • Proven track record managing legacy documentation upgrades, CAD drafting conversions, or database digitalization projects.
  • Extensive experience defining hardware panel architecture, busbar design, protection schemes, and low/medium voltage component selection.
  • Technical literacy with high proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN), Microsoft Office 365, and PLM/ERP databases.
  • Product engineering experience within heavy rotating equipment, electric motors, generators, switchgear, or industrial control environments preferred.
  • Analytical thinking, meticulous attention to data integrity, and engineering change control (ECR/ECO) management capability.
  • Knowledge of global industry standards relevant to control panels and electrical cubicles (e.g., IEC, IEEE, UL) is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND WORK HOURS
  • Daily minimum of 8 hours. Weekly 40 hour minimum.
  • This position operates in both a professional office environment and a heavy industrial manufacturing plant floor.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights during critical project testing, FAT, or manufacturing deployment phases.
  • Travel may be required (likely 25%) for customer technical meetings, vendor reviews, and site commissioning. Must be able to travel throughout the United States and abroad. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport and US-issued driver’s license.
