Our client is a well-established construction company with a strong presence in the San Diego market. The company delivers complex construction projects while emphasizing safety, quality, collaboration, and long-term client relationships.
We are seeking an experienced Project Director / Project Executive to provide executive-level leadership throughout the construction project lifecycle, from preconstruction through closeout.
This role will oversee project teams, maintain key client and design relationships, drive financial performance, and support business development efforts across the San Diego market.
Candidates must live and work in San Diego and have strong, established relationships within the local construction market.
- Provide executive-level oversight throughout all phases of construction projects.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for owners, architects, consultants, and project teams.
- Lead project pursuits, proposal development, and interview preparation.
- Support business development and expansion of the company's San Diego market presence.
- Maintain accountability for project budgets, forecasting, cost control, billing, and profitability.
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Build, lead, coach, and develop high-performing project teams.
- Manage project resources and staffing requirements.
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure projects meet client expectations for quality, schedule, budget, and overall performance.
- Lead preconstruction efforts including client management, strategy development, constructability review, and resource planning.
RequirementsQualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 15+ years of progressive construction experience.
- Previous experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Operations Leader, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of and established relationships within the San Diego construction market.
- Proven ability to lead large, complex construction projects or major programs.
- Strong understanding of construction budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Extensive experience with Lump Sum, GMP, Negotiated, Design-Build, and Hard Bid delivery methods.
- Strong knowledge of estimating, preconstruction, constructability, and value engineering.
- Experience with public sector, healthcare, higher education, civic/municipal, or infrastructure projects strongly preferred.
- Self-perform construction experience preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills.
- Strong business development and relationship-building capabilities.
- Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong decision-making, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
