Project Design Technology Lead

Your Role

We are seeking experienced design professionals with a passion for experimentation, innovation, and problem-solving to join our Design Technology community. As a Project Design Technology Lead, you will use your soft skills, relationship building and technical expertise to drive with confidence, computational design innovation at a project level.

The Project Design Technology Lead will partner with the Regional Design Technology Leaders to establish goals and strategic plans in support of project objectives. Candidates should have proven experience in leading design teams and external consultants, as well as managing the long-term commitment of executing  large scale project delivery. We believe that this role is key to delivering the highest value and best outcome for our clients.
 
What You Will Do

• Identify computational innovation opportunities on projects across all studios and realize these opportunities by leading the development, implementation, and execution of the developed workflows.
• Partner with Regional Design Technology Leaders to monitor and report computational practices in design and incorporate workflows, best practices, and content shared across the project and firm.
• Lead/coordinate office visualization and storytelling training with particular focus on Generative AI (new employee/continuing education);
• Articulate  and report on key performance indicators of design technology practices across the duration of projects.
• Author/Develop design solutions to address project needs using various tools, scripting, and workflows.
• In collaboration with the DT BIM leaders, recognize the degree and complexity of a project and co-author the right design technology strategy to optimize project performance as well as support an integrated and lean project delivery framework.
• Establish, communicate, and interpret changes in best practices, protocols, and other related matters.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with office and studio leaders by improving communication, transparency, and involvement throughout the duration of a project.
• Mentoring and train project team on computational design practices and elevate the baseline aptitude of project teams.
• Execution of digital fluency between design applications to eliminate waste.

Your Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture and/or computer science, or equivalent years of experience.
• Deep knowledge of computational geometry (topology optimization, medial axis, point clouds, rationalization, panelization, Delaunay meshes, etc.)
• Deep knowledge of and proven practical experience in Computational Design applications such as Grasshopper, Dynamo etc. 
• Experience with Performance Design applications such as Climate Studio, Radiance, Energy+, Open Foam, Ladybug Tools, Diva etc.
• Experience/ability to build and deploy Grasshopper/Dynamo scripts & plugins
• Good knowledge of Rhino Common, Rhino Compute, Grasshopper SDKs, and Revit API.
• Deep understanding of software interoperability routines.
• Proficiency in Generative AI Tools - experience with AI-driven design tools and platforms (e.g., Midjourney, Run Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, etc.) applied to architectural and visual content creation.
• Good graphic design and storytelling skills. 
• Good knowledge of architecture and interior design processes and workflows.
• An articulate communicator who can convey Design Technology-related concepts to all levels of design and delivery professionals.

Essential

• Experience in Power BI/Tableau or other Data Visualization tools.
• Generative AI – Run Diffusion; Stable Diffusion; Midjourney
• Experience in C#, Python or pyRevit.
• Comfortable working with JSON and XML data formats.
• Experience/ability with custom UI at the application level.
• Comfortable working with using Git + source control in a team environment.

Desirable

• Experience in building Web based frontend UIs using JavaScript frameworks like VueJs/ReactJs.
• Experience in building Rest/GraphQL APIs using Go/NodeJs/C#/Python.
• Experience in working with OpenGL layer and display namespaces.
• Experience working with game development engines like Unity, Unreal.
• Experience in various methodologies to produce AR/VR/MR visualization outputs.
