What you will do:
The Project Cost Specialist is a self-motivated individual that guides and supports the Design and Construction department with standardized processes, initiatives and best practice reporting standards.
The role requires active participation in project administration and the identification and implementation of process improvements. Accurate and timely financial reporting and cost controls will be a direct result of these efforts. The role will create unity of process and execution across the department.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in the office per week). Office location is 1303 Yonge Street, Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, control & report on capital budgets and cashflows.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for future process improvements.
- Oversee audit controls to ensure financial capital projects are compliant with corporate and industry standards.
- Monitor, reconcile and analyze capital and operating expenses for all individual projects.
- Identify and analyze internal and industry trends relevant to future project costing.
- Train and support Project Managers with basic accounting fundamentals, cost controls, and analytic tools.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and quantitative communication skills.
- Collaboration with various departments within CPX to create synergies and automations.
- Manage communication of project updates to internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and consistency of reporting.
- Identify and implement new process innovations, including the use of potential third-party software and artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT.
- Assist the Vice-President, or any CPX Executive, as applicable.
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent post-secondary program with demonstrated experience in finance or accounting.
- Enrolled or working towards CPA is preferred.
- PMP and/or construction project management experience is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant financial control and analysis.
- Minimum 3-5 years process automation (Power Automate, PowerBI etc.).
- Experience in construction project management is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS Accounting Standards
- Proficient in ERP System: Oracle and/or PeopleSoft
- Basic knowledge of construction administration
- Ability to ensure timely resolution to problems and disputes
- Strategic thinker and creative problem solver
- Strong team player with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with all parties.
- Possess quality and customer service-oriented attitude.
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
- Bilingual (English and French) would be an asset.
