The PositionProject Cost Control Engineer
Job Summary
IMERYS has launched a lithium mining project (the EMILI Project) in Allier, France. The EMILI Project schedule foresees production starting in 2028, with a production target of 34,000 tons of lithium hydroxide per year for at least 25 years. In 2022 and 2023, the project underwent a Scoping phase successfully and has entered into Pre-Feasibility Study / FEL 2 of the Commercial plant.
In 2024 has performed the FEL 3 of the Pilot Plants and is ready to start Execution via a contract with an EPCm partner. Procurement campaign of the Pilot Plants is ongoing and construction of the Pilot Plant will start in H1 2025.
Furthermore, in 2025, the Project will contract the Definitive Feasibility Study/FEL 3 and proceed with it.
The position will be primary focused on ensuring the cost control activity of the Execution of the Pilot Plant and DFS of the Commercial Plant, before being directed towards the Execution of the Commercial Plant.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect cost data from relevant project resources, aggregate the figures and check the reliability of data to develop and maintain the project cost model for the different phases of the Project (Feasibility Study and Execution phases). As part of this role, drive familiarisation of all project contributors with respect to cost control and reporting;
- Every month, update the Estimate At Completion, with inputs mainly from Workstream leads, Contract managers and Contractors teams to maintain a dynamic cost model file that can be used for various reporting activities, forecast and cash call needs;
- Control and validate contract signing sheets for WBS allocation and consistency with budget;
- Every month, check consistency at project level with actual and committed costs logged into the SAP accounting system (WBS allocation, good receipts and invoice payments, amount and phasing vs. budget, derivation of accruals) in coordination with the Project Finance team;
- Liaise with Workstream leads, Contract Managers and Project Risks Manager to update the Estimate At Completion considering possible variations/claims and risks vs. current authorized budget and available contingency. Maintain up to date a change log.
- Based on inputs provided by Workstream leads and the Project Planning Manager, ensure that expected payment milestones have been achieved, that application for payment have been validated by Workstream leads and that cost forecast and schedule are developed consistently;
- Analyse deviations against the current authorized budget and maintain a bridge table explaining variances;
- Prepare the requested cost reporting (e.g. reporting of actual costs, committed costs and forecast vs. budget) and provide the necessary information to the Project Finance team for the project cost consolidation and budget presentations;
Education and Experience requirements:
- Master in Business or Engineering with a Business component
- Minimum 5 years of experience in cost controlling for large complex projects (>500m€) on the Owner’s side
- Proven experience and good understanding of cost control software(s)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Preferably, have experience with SAP
- A background in cost estimating is a real plus
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Able to work in a French context (English is mandatory, French is a real plus)
- Used to working in a multinational environment.
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to identify stakes related to Cost and ability to escalate issues to her/his hierarchy
- Capable of leadership, including excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Team-oriented, dynamic, proactive and adaptable
- Autonomous and rigorous
- Highly motivated & results focused with the ability to act with a high sense of urgency

The location is in Echassières, France (Beauvoir Site, Allier Department) with Presence desired on construction site and at the EPCM office
