Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Controls Director for one of our offices in Sacramento, CA. The Project Controls Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of project controls functions, including cost, schedule, risk, change management, and performance management. The Director establishes project controls standards and processes, leads cross-functional teams, and provides executive leadership with data-driven analysis and recommendations to support successful delivery of large-scale projects on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with established scope and requirements.

Summary of Responsibilities: 

  • Support project controls activities across cost, schedule, risk, change management, and performance reporting
  • Assist with the development and implementation of project controls processes, procedures, standards, and reporting requirements
  • Support the development and monitoring of project budgets, cost estimates, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Review cost and schedule performance, identify variances, and support the development of corrective actions
  • Monitor project schedules, including milestones, dependencies, critical path activities, and potential delays
  • Support the identification, assessment, and tracking of project risks and mitigation strategies
  • Assist with change control activities and evaluate potential impacts to project cost, schedule, scope, and risk
  • Prepare and support project performance reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and key stakeholders
  • Provide data-driven analysis and recommendations to support project decision-making and performance
  • Coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, contracts, finance, and other project teams on project controls matters
  • Monitor project performance metrics and assist in identifying trends, issues, and areas requiring attention
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project controls staff and project teams
  • Support the maintenance of accurate and timely project controls documentation, records, and reporting
  • Assist with continuous improvement efforts to enhance project controls processes, systems, and reporting
  • Support leadership with ad hoc analysis, reporting, and project controls activities as needed

 

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • BA/BS + 12 years of relative experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in project controls, cost management, scheduling, or related functions, preferably on large-scale construction, engineering, transportation, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience providing project controls support on complex projects or programs
  • Strong knowledge of project cost, schedule, risk, change, and performance management principles
  • Proficiency with project controls, scheduling, cost management, and reporting software
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and support project leadership
  • PMP, AACE, PSP, EVP, or equivalent project controls certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with Primavera P6, ArcGIS, FME, or similar project management and analytical platforms
  • Experience supporting major transportation, rail, public works, or large-scale infrastructure programs
  • LEED certification or equivalent sustainability credential
