About the Role

The Project Accountant II supports ITEX's ICON construction division, providing accounting support directly to Project Managers on active construction projects. This role oversees all accounting processes for assigned projects, keeping them on budget, monitoring job costs against approved contract values, and resolving sub-contractor issues as they arise. The successful candidate has a solid grasp of construction accounting fundamentals, including job costing, lien waivers, and pay application review; is detail-oriented and well-organized; and works well under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do

Process invoices and payments for assigned construction projects

Process owner and sub-contractor pay applications and change orders

Process bank draws in coordination with project timelines

Prepare and reconcile monthly owner requisitions and subcontractor pay applications for assigned projects

Perform project budget analysis, cost variance analysis, and re-forecasting as needed

Prepare and deliver job cost reporting, including job cost transfers and cost coding review

Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations

Track and follow up on subcontractor compliance documentation, including insurance certificates, W-9s, and lien waivers

Assist in setting up cost codes and budgets for new project contracts

Maintain organized project accounting files, including contracts, POs, bills, liens, and correspondence

Provide training and day-to-day process guidance to junior Project Accountants on the team

Perform other duties as directed by management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of construction accounting support experience required
  • Working knowledge of AIA billing formats, retainage, lien waivers, and change order processing
  • Familiarity with job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting concepts
  • Experience with Yardi, AIA software, Sage, and Procore preferred
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient 10-key data entry

Physical Demands

This position primarily works in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional lifting of up to 15 lbs (files, office supplies) may be required.
