Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Curator & Associate Director of Communications, the Programs and Community Engagement Manager (PCEM) develops, manages, and implements inclusive public programs and community engagement activities that advance the Rose Art Museum’s mission and support its exhibitions, collections, and strategic priorities.

Working collaboratively with curatorial staff, the Museum Educator, and campus and community partners, including Brandeis students, faculty, staff, and members of the broader public. The position is responsible for fostering meaningful connections through innovative programming and strategic outreach efforts that increase participation, deepen engagement, and expand the museum’s reach.

The Manager also supports the museum's communications and audience development efforts through digital marketing initiatives, including social media, email marketing, website content, and promotional campaigns. Success in this role requires strong project management, communication, and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to create and track budgets and manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment. 

Regular on-site presence is required to support the Museum's public-facing activities. Evening and weekend hours are periodically required for programs, events, and outreach initiatives, with appropriate advance notice.

The salary range for the position is $64,700 to $69,400; salary offer to be commensurate with experience.

Job Description

Public Programs and Engagement 50% 

  • In collaboration with curatorial staff and the Museum Educator, develop, coordinate, and implement public programs and engagement initiatives in conjunction with exhibitions and collections, including, but not limited to, artist talks, lectures, workshops, performances, student events, and community programs.

  • Manage all aspects of program planning and execution, including scheduling, speaker coordination and accommodations, registrations, logistics, and day-of-event management.

  • Supervise interns, vendors, or staff related to event production.

  • Represent the Museum at campus and community events and support outreach activities designed to foster participation among diverse audiences.

Community and Academic Outreach 25%

  • Coordinate outreach efforts to increase participation in exhibitions and programs.

  • Cultivate and participate in community engagement initiatives, including tabling at festivals, orientation events, and other campus and local gatherings.

  • Support efforts to expand access and strengthen connections with existing audiences.

Event Production 15% 

  • Coordinates and executes events, creating logistical schedules and managing space needs with necessary museum and campus staff. 

  • Responsible for booking guests, planning, set up, technical production etc. 

  • Welcome groups visiting the museum, including some after-hours and/or weekend engagements. 

  • Serve as main point of contact for program participants, presenters, and audience accessibility needs with respect to in-person and digital programs.

Administration and General Support 10% 

  • Maintain records, calendars, and databases related to programs and engagement activities.

  • Track expenses, administer program evaluations, complete assigned reporting, and participate in departmental administration.

  • Stay informed about best practices in museum programming, audience engagement, and communications.

  • Work with the museum team to identify potential sources of funding or sponsorship to help grow academic and public programs, and work collaboratively on funding requests.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience. Master's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • 3-5 years of work experience is required.

  • Experience in event production, project management, budgets; modern/contemporary art knowledge; excellent communication skills; strong collaboration; commitment to DEIA and experience working w/diverse people and groups; ability to present information at all levels; self-directed; mission-oriented; patient, innovative, adaptive; 100% onsite.

  • May supervise interns, contractors or event staff.

The University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting.
