As a Managing Consultant you will seamlessly blend commercial expertise with the drive to elevate project outcomes, setting a standard for excellence across the organisation.
The role requires a natural leader, with sound business acumen and a talent for client communication, project coordination and delegation. An understanding of the application of the appropriate medical device regulations to the type of products we develop with our clients is also key to this role.
Key responsibilities for Project Leadership:
- Be the voice of the client, ensuring project colleagues remain client focussed, and appropriate decisions are made and communicated. Keeping the client’s perspective in mind, and that Team is working with integrity, value for money and in partnership with client.
- You will be the colleague people reach out to help solve problems, give good advice, be an experienced sounding board.
- Seeing and calling out when things are [likely to be] going wrong – go towards it, fix it, communicate with clients, support colleagues etc.
- Drive continuous improvement, ensuring best use of systems / data, be pragmatic in solving problems.
- Deep dive into a project review role as needed, on key projects that need assistance, through project review or more substantial project lead role.
- You will play a pivotal role in mentoring, delivering training, demonstrating and advocating for exceptional project leadership.
Key responsibilities for Commercial Activities:
- Build, nurture and maintain enduring relationships with clients, through client and account management activities.
- Help make consulting staff more commercially aware, support the bid process and proposal generation and cost estimation.
- Support contractual discussions, including MSA and TO negotiations.
- Maintaining Team’s awareness of market dynamics to ensure strategic fit of Team’s services with current and future demand (drug delivery focus – respiratory and parenteral).
- Ad hoc contribution to pipeline management alongside the virtual DD team, and contribute to planning and building presence in market sector.
- Collaboratively harnessing our expert knowledge, skills and track-record to profile Team with existing and potential new clients.
The role holder will manage their time effectively and ensure they are balancing their time depending on where they can add most value.

Qualifications & skills
Essential:
- A proven track record in the planning, control and delivery of a broad range of medical device development programmes for drug delivery devices and systems, including combination products.
- Demonstrable experience of:
- budget control;
- empowering projects teams to deliver to a high standard;
- clarity on ‘good enough’ and how to still delight the client;
- leveraging opportunities to sell more work / further the relationship.
- Have the necessary understanding of traceability, risk management and reporting/documentation requirements to meet contractual, regulatory and client expectations.
- Capable of leading complex bids and proposal preparation, including:
- planning and designing a product development programme;
- evaluation of programme risks;
- project planning and costing.
- Honours degree in Science, Life Science, Design or Engineering (Mechanical/ Electro-mechanical) or equivalent experience.
- An interest in mentoring and developing people in a matrix organisation.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of at least one of the following markets:
- Medtech (Minimally invasive surgery, critical care, diagnostics, neurotech, cell and gene therapy, nuclear medicine, complex medtech systems and digital ecosystems)
- Drug delivery (injectables, inhalation or drug packaging)
- Support for business development and / or sales activities
- Familiar with the requirements of IEC 60601 and 62304.
