Program Manager, Fellowships

Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit building a better technology future — powered by people, open by design, fueled by imagination.

We deliver people-first alternatives to today’s extractive systems. We build side by side with developers, innovators and advocates, united in the belief that a better technology future is not only possible — it’s ours to create.

Team

The Imagination & Strategic Growth (I&SG) team is an executive function within Mozilla Foundation that treats imagination as a core institutional capability for technology development. Working at the intersection of culture, strategy, and long-term growth, the team shapes how creative intelligence becomes new technology, partnerships, and sustained investment.

I&SG stewards the Foundation’s creative R&D program, Creative Futures, and the Fellowships program as flagship expressions of this work.

The Mozilla Fellowships program is a high-impact leadership initiative that supports people carrying imaginative, boundary-breaking ideas into institutions, movements, policy spaces, media, and public life. Fellows advance more accountable and people-centered technology futures while embedded within host organizations and networks.

The Program Manager, Fellowships serves as the operational backbone of this program — translating strategic vision into structured, well-executed program delivery across the full Fellowship lifecycle.

Job responsibilities

Here are some projects you'll likely work on in your first 6 months:

  • Lead the next Fellowship recruitment and selection cycle, including refining selection criteria, coordinating review processes, and preparing materials for leadership and advisors.
  • Manage cohort formation and oversee offers, contracting timelines, and public announcements in partnership with Legal, Communications, and the Grants team.
  • Design and execute a strong onboarding experience for new Fellows and host organizations.
  • Establish clear project management systems, documentation practices, and communication rhythms to support a seamless Fellowship year.
  • Support planning for upcoming convenings and moments of visibility (including Mozilla-wide events such as MozFest).

As a Program Manager, Fellowships at Mozilla, you will…

  • Own the end-to-end execution of the Mozilla Fellowships program across recruitment, onboarding, delivery, and alumni engagement.
  • Shape structured, transparent, and equitable selection processes that balance rigor and creative ambition.
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for Fellows and host organizations, resolving issues and ensuring alignment.
  • Manage budgets, contracts, payment schedules, and reporting in partnership with Finance/Admin and the Grants team.
  • Track milestones, deliverables, and impact signals, contributing to internal and funder reporting.
  • Maintain strong project management systems across multiple stakeholders and overlapping timelines.
  • Coordinate engagement between the Fellowship and other Mozilla Foundation programs.
  • Support alumni continuity and post-Fellowship touchpoints.
  • Collect feedback and document program learnings to strengthen future cycles.
  • Integrate guidance from a team of Senior Curricular Advisors and program leadership into program design and Fellow experience.
  • Operate with high autonomy, sound judgment, and attention to detail in a fast-moving, evolving environment.

Your Professional Profile:

  • 5–7 years of experience in program management, grantmaking, fellowships, leadership development, or cohort-based initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with overlapping timelines.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, tracking, and execution across parallel workstreams.
Experience managing budgets, contracts, and reporting processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear documentation and updates.
  • Experience collaborating with senior leaders, advisors, and external partners.
  • Ability to operate independently, exercise judgment, and translate between strategic, creative, and operational contexts.
  • Comfort working in a remote, distributed organization.

You are both imaginative and exacting — someone who enjoys turning ambitious ideas into clear, well-run programs. You notice details others miss, follow threads to completion, and take pride in creating experiences that feel thoughtful, responsive, and well held.

We Are Excited To See Any Additional Experience With:

  • Fellowship programs, grantmaking, or leadership development initiatives.
  • Public-interest technology, open source ecosystems, or technology policy contexts.
  • Supporting institutional funder reporting.
  • Project management tools such as Asana, Airtable, Notion, Smartsheet, or similar systems.
  • International or cross-geography program coordination.

What We Do

A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation.
Along with our communities of 20,000+ contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come).
By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.
