JOB SUMMARY
The Oklahoma State Department of Education is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Program Director to lead the Office of Standards and Learning. As the Program Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational standards and curriculum to ensure high-quality learning experiences for students across the state. This leadership position requires a deep understanding of education policies, instructional practices, and assessment methodologies. Your expertise and guidance will play a critical role in shaping the educational landscape and promoting academic excellence in Oklahoma.
Please note: This role requires a consistent, in-person presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and does not offer remote, telecommuting, or hybrid options.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knowledge & Expertise: Strong knowledge of education policies and standards at the state and national levels. Demonstrated success in designing and implementing innovative educational programs. Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to inform decision-making and drive improvements. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including educators, administrators, and policymakers.
Curriculum Development and Standards: Lead the development and review of statewide educational standards and curriculum guidelines, aligning them with national best practices and the unique needs of Oklahoma's students. Collaborate with subject matter experts and education stakeholders to ensure the continuous improvement of educational content. Review assessment data to ensure alignment with curriculum standards.
Instructional Design: Provide strategic direction in designing effective and innovative instructional materials and resources to support teachers and enhance student learning outcomes. Foster the integration of technology and research-based pedagogical approaches into instructional practices. Analyze assessment data and use insights to inform instructional improvements and policy decisions.
Professional Development: Develop and implement comprehensive professional development programs for educators, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality instruction. Foster a culture of continuous learning among education professionals.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with district leaders, teachers, and education organizations to promote a shared vision for educational excellence and address challenges in the implementation of standards and curriculum.
Policy Implementation: Ensure the effective implementation of educational policies related to standards, curriculum, and assessments. Monitor compliance with state and federal regulations and provide guidance to stakeholders as needed.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs and initiatives, preparing comprehensive reports for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field; [official transcripts required upon hire];
Seven (7) years of experience in educational leadership, curriculum development, or assessment practices;
Possession of a valid teaching certificate.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future;
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check;
Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisors are responsible for overseeing and managing a team of employees to ensure they perform their duties effectively and efficiently. Overall, a supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the success of their team and the organization as a whole. They must possess strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage resources effectively and resolve conflicts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office setting based out of: Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Physical Demands include:
Ability to stand, reach, and bend 50% of the time;
Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, and office telephone 75% of the time;
Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;
Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
Cognitive Requirements:
This role requires clear and accurate communication, strong analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate information and make timely decisions.
Sustained focus and attention to detail are essential, along with memory retention of policies, procedures, and facts over various time frames.
Adaptability and mental flexibility are also necessary to handle changing information, work conditions, and unexpected challenges.
TRAVEL
Occasional (up to 10%) in-state/out-of-state travel may be required.
