Position Purpose

The Program Coordinator, Sports & Gaming (temporary) is a direct report of the Director, Program Development & Scale and will support the execution of sports-based mentoring partnerships across the big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) network of 200+ Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) agencies while capturing the insights, practices, and implementation lessons needed to inform a broader national Sports and Gaming strategy. This is a temporary position anticipated to continue through June 2027, subject to continued business need and available funding. The position does not guarantee employment through June 2027 or conversion to a regular position. Any continuation or future opportunity will be determined based on organizational need and available funding.

As national interest from BBBS agencies and corporate partners continues to grow, this position will help ensure activations are executed successfully, participant experiences remain high quality, and key learnings are systematically documented and shared. The role will serve as a bridge between partner opportunities, agency implementation, and organizational learning. The primary objective of this position is to generate the evidence, tools, and recommendations necessary to support the national launch of Sports & Gaming.

Remote Work Location Requirement

This position is approved for remote work within the Continental United States only. Any permanent change to the geographic location of an employee’s remote work arrangement from the region identified at the time of hire must be reviewed and approved in advance by both the employee’s direct manager and Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Partnership Activation & Coordination

  • Coordinate agency participation in national sports-based mentoring opportunities.
  • Coordinate logistics and support national and local teams in planning and execution of sports clinics, camps, tournaments, and partner-sponsored mentoring events to ensure high-quality youth and volunteer experiences.
  • Serve as a liaison between agencies, corporate partners, and BBBSA staff.
  • Support event logistics, communications, participant coordination, and follow-up activities.
  • Attend select activations to support execution and observe implementation firsthand.
  • Ensure fulfillment of partner commitments and activation deliverables.

Network Learning & Best Practice Capture

  • Document lessons learned from agency activations and partnership experiences.
  • Conduct post-event debriefs with agencies and partners.
  • Identify successful implementation approaches and recurring challenges.
  • Gather stories, photos, feedback, and examples of impact.
  • Develop case studies and implementation examples that can be shared across the network.
  • Develop and share content that highlights activation outcomes and lessons learned and enables learning, amplification and awareness building with the network and potential partners.
  • Maintain a repository of Sports & Gaming resources, examples, and learnings.

Agency Engagement

  • Maintain relationships with participating agencies.
  • Respond to agency questions regarding Sports & Gaming opportunities and participation requirements.
  • Connect agencies to resources, examples, and peer learning opportunities.
  • Collect agency feedback to inform future investment and program design.

Program Tracking & Reporting

  • Track participating agencies, partnership activations, youth engagement, and event outcomes.
  • Maintain implementation records and activity dashboards.
  • Support reporting for partners, grants, and internal leadership.
  • Contribute recommendations for future staffing, investments, and implementation supports.

Other

  • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs.

Expected Outcomes: By the conclusion of the temporary assignment, and through the direct and collaborative efforts of the Program Coordinator, BBBSA will have:

  • A documented set of Sports & Gaming best practices.
  • Case studies from successful partnership activations.
  • Recommended activation models for future replication.
  • Agency readiness and participation insights.
  • Partner feedback and satisfaction findings.
  • Recommended support structures for agencies.
  • Strategic recommendations regarding future staffing, investments, and a potential FY28 full-time position.

Education, Skills & Related Work Experience

Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent and relevant professional experience. Postsecondary education or training in a related field is welcomed but not required.

Years and Scope of Related Work Experience: 2+ years of related experience in program coordination, project coordination, event or partnership activation, nonprofit programming, youth development, community engagement, or a related area. Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, managing event or program logistics, tracking deliverables, and documenting outcomes or lessons learned is strongly preferred. Experience working within a national network, chapter/affiliate model, youth-serving organization, sports-based programming, or corporate partnership environment is a plus.

Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Demonstrated project and program coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple activities, timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables simultaneously.
  • Advanced relationship-building and customer-service skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, local agencies, external partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting events, programs, activations, or similar initiatives from planning through execution and follow-up.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to capture key insights and translate information into clear summaries, case studies, resources, and recommendations.
  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to maintain accurate program records, trackers, dashboards, and documentation.
  • Ability to gather and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information to identify trends, lessons learned, implementation challenges, and promising practices.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities, partner needs, and implementation circumstances.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams and geographic locations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable productivity tools; experience with project management, CRM, survey, or data-tracking platforms preferred. Experience with Asana is a plus; if not previously used, demonstrated ability to quickly learn and effectively adopt new technology platforms is required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically within the United States to support and observe Sports & Gaming activations, including occasional evening or weekend events as business needs require.
