About the Role

Our Canberra office is on a progressive growth trajectory and as such we are expanding our Program and Project Assurance Services team and looking for a Manager or Senior Manager to work with us.

In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with a high-performing and results driven team, applying your expertise and passion for portfolio, program and project management assurance to deliver meaningful insights and pragmatic actions to drive real improvements in complex government digital transformation and policy implementation initiatives. 

You will work closely with our Federal Government clients, to audit large and complex engagements that shape the future of public sector delivery. You will have the exposure and ability to work alongside a Senior Leadership team with decades of industry experience who are invested in your career growth and success.

 
About the Team

BDO has experienced teams across Australia offering a range of Risk Advisory Services (RAS) to businesses and organisations in both the private and public sectors.

Our RAS team in Canberra include the provision of Program and Project Assurance and Advisory services. Regardless of the size of the project or organisation, project assurance is invaluable in effectively assessing project health and providing delivery confidence across all areas of risk to support successful project & program outcomes. 

We typically report to the Program Sponsor, C-suite level Executives, Steering Committees and Board/s while working alongside the Project/Program delivery teams in helping them assess and mitigate the delivery risks associated with the transformation/implementation.

 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Leading the scoping, fieldwork and reporting of program and project assurance reviews, assessing overall delivery health and its delivery effectiveness, risk management, compliance, and maturity to help clients achieve successful outcomes. 
  • Be the main point of contact for our program and project client teams to deliver real-time and meaningful insights with pragmatic recommendations that drive continuous delivery improvements and alignment with strategic objectives. 
  • Work alongside senior leaders in the firm to generate insights that matter, using data analysis, and clear reporting, tailored to the needs of diverse stakeholders. 
  • Driving business development activities across the team, including end-to-end development of proposals, broader market activity and client presentations.  
  • Coaching, mentor, support and educate junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development within the team. 
  • Understand and apply BDO’s assurance and evaluation methodologies, tools, and templates to ensure rigorous, consistent and value-driven approach across all engagements.

About You

Our ideal candidate comes from a project assurance background which can include internal audit with prior experience in assessing complex programmes to provide an objective oversight of its likely future performance.

This role would suit a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual who would be looking to join a growing and dynamic team. You will play a key part in helping clients navigate complex change by bringing structure, insight, and a collaborative mindset to every engagement.

It is strongly recommended that you have demonstrable experience in the following:  

  • Demonstrated experience in program or project assurance, performance evaluation, and audit processes with exposure to latest better practices and frameworks in delivering assurance within Federal Government, risk management, project management, project governance and legislative compliance etc.  
  • Possesses a strong internal drive, a growth mindset, and clear aspirations for leadership and professional development. 
  • Proven business development acumen, and a natural ability to build and maintain client relationships. 
  • A strategic and critical-thinking mindset with the ability to brainstorm possible solutions with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across a variety of mediums (including in person, virtual, reports, emails, presentations) and work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, manage engagements and deliverables. 
  • Relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) in ideally project management, risk management, commerce/business and or IT. 
  • Certification in project management methodologies (preferably with Agile, PMP, MSP, PRINCE2, PMBOK, or a similar certification). 
  • Strong background and knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices 
  • Australian Citizenship is a must (with ability to secure an Australian Government Security Clearance).
