Title: Program Aide
Department: Adult Day Services
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports To: Operations Manager and Senior Social Worker
Summary: Responsible for providing personal care services, conducting group activities, preparing and distributing meals to Adult Day Services participants.
Essential Functions:
⦁ Provides personal care services (e.g. toileting, transferring, personal hygiene and dressing) to participants under the supervision of the nursing staff.
⦁ Escorts participants between the group vans and the center.
⦁ Monitors participants’ conditions and behaviors and reports unusual observations to the appropriate staff and/or in the morning huddle.
⦁ Encourages and/or assists participants to engage in activities as necessary; assists in planning and conducting parties or special events for participants.
⦁ Prepares snacks, beverages and other food items (e.g., porridge) for meals; cuts, chops and/or grounds food as necessary to meet the needs of individual participants.
⦁ Distributes meals in appropriate portions based on established standards; discards unused portions according to the Center’s policies and procedures.
⦁ Assists in cleaning up after meals.
⦁ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
⦁ Experience in providing personal care to frail or disabled adults and/or experience in working with older adults with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Food service experience and previous experience working in a day care program preferred.
⦁ California Home Health Aide certificate or Certified Nursing Assistant certificate highly preferred.
⦁ Must be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.
⦁ Ability to communicate in Cantonese and simple English.
⦁ Must pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job: able to lift up to 40 lbs from floor to waist level.
⦁ Must have TB clearance within 12 months prior to employment and maintain clearance annually thereafter.
⦁ Must acquire CPR and First Aid certificates within 6 months of employment and maintain current certificates thereafter.
