Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology (Non-Tenure)

Division: School of Education and Behavioral Sciences

Exempt, Full-time

9-month position


  1. Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching courses in the undergraduate day program and graduate programs. As a faculty member, the Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment, accreditation, and student related activities (i.e., regular office hours). Tenure track appointees are also expected to maintain a program of active psychology-related scholarship.

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Program Management and Operation (90% of work time)


    • Teach 21 credit hours per academic year (undergraduate and graduate courses)
    • Provide comprehensive academic advising
    • Actively participate in University, School, and Department committees
    • Actively participate in the accreditation process
    • Actively participate in program assessment, curriculum development, and grant writing
    • Actively develop scholarship (e.g., publications, conference presentations)
    • Other duties and university service may be assigned by the Dean, within the scope of the Faculty Handbook.

  1. Education and Experience

Minimum

  • Doctoral Degree in Psychology, Counselor Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates with documented progress toward completion may be considered. 


Preferred

  • Licensure: Must be a licensed or license-eligible as a Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Counselor or K-12 School Counselor
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience in a university/college setting. 
  • Excellent record of teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. 
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research. 
  • Possess a strong understanding and experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse students especially those from Hawaii's local culture. 

 

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
    • Must possess high integrity and ethical standards.
    • Must have the ability to create and facilitate a meaningful learning environment. 
    • Demonstrate a willingness to teach a variety of psychology and counseling psychology courses in a diverse educational setting. 
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
    • Advanced skills in the use of computer software applications (i.e., Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, & SPSS) and learning management systems (i.e., Canvas) and the internet. 
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources. 
    • Ability to meet deadlines. 
    • Ability to interpret data and prepare reports. 
    • Knowledge and experience in using common office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. 

 

  1. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.


  1. Other Requirements
    • Attend meetings and provide service as required for the program, school, university and area committees and work groups;
    • This is a full-time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Dean.
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
