SPACE SYSTEMS

Rocket Lab’s Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab: from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more. Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.

TECHNICIAN III-IV, PRODUCTION

As a Production Technician based at Rocket Lab’s site in Albuquerque, New Mexico, you will have the opportunity to support the R&D engineering team in the optimization, fabrication, and troubleshooting of new and existing solar cell processes. You will conduct processing and characterization of III-V solar cell semiconductors including but not limited to, visual inspection by microscopy, photolithography, wafer grinding, chemical etching etc. Join a driven team of pioneers relentlessly tackling challenging projects, delivering on the impossible, and making an impact on the future of space power.

(Please note: this position can be hired at the Production Technician III or Production Technician IV level) 

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Work in a clean room environment with semiconductor tools and processes
  • Supports all aspects of R&D cell fabrication processing
  • Basic understanding of III-V solar cell fabrication and how to monitor for process deviations
  • Conduct cell yield characterization / aid in process deviation troubleshooting
  • Aid in work instruction updates and process controls
  • Assists the R&D cell process engineering team in running technology specific process optimizations, small programs, new tool qualification, and troubleshooting experiments

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN III:

  • 8+ years of experience in at least ONE of the following:
    • Manufacturing experience in a semiconductor fab OR
    • Experience in chemistry or a chemistry lab
  • High School Diploma or GED

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN IV:

  • 12+ years of experience in at least ONE of the following:
    • Manufacturing experience in a semiconductor fab OR
    • Experience in chemistry or a chemistry lab
  • High School Diploma or GED

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: 

  • Associate’s degree in related field preferred
  • 15+ years of related experience
  • Knowledge of ESD and Cleanroom procedures a plus.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations and occasional variables
  • Ability to identify failure discrepancies per visual and/or written descriptions
  • Ability to use a microscope & various characterization equipment
  • Ability to use computer hardware and software, including MS Office
  • Ability to collect and record data
  • Ability to set-up and prepare workstation/assembly fixtures
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to communicate efficiently
  • Ability to measure and pour chemicals

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to climb ladders and be comfortable working in tight spaces.
  • Must be able to move repetitively, bend or twist, and use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods – 8 hours min 
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
