About the role:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the safe execution of daily mining operations, ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining operational efficiency and workforce productivity. The role would be heavily focused on training, upskilling and mentoring national supervisors to achieve best practice. This role bridges planning and execution, translating mine plans into actionable field activities. 

The position is site based on a 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off (4:2) roster on a FIFO basis back to home base.

Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, you will collaborate with Mine Operations, Dispatch, HSEC, CCR, Maintenance, Plant team and contractors to achieve an inclusive and high-performance team environment 

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and dumping activities 

• Ensure alignment with short-term mine plans and production schedules 

• Coordinate shift activities and ensure smooth handover between crews 

• Lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary teams (operators, contractors, technicians) 

• Conduct pre-start safety meetings and daily briefings 

• Manage workforce discipline, attendance, and performance 

• Monitor production rates, cycle times, and equipment utilization 

• Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions 

• Optimize loading and hauling efficiency 

• Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with HSE procedures 

• Promote a strong safety culture and intervene in unsafe behaviors 

• Participate in incident investigations and improvement initiatives 

• Allocate equipment and personnel to meet operational priorities 

• Coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime 

• Ensure availability of consumables and operational resources 

• Achievement of daily/weekly production targets (tonnage, BCM, ore delivery) 

• Equipment utilization and availability rates 

• Cost per tonne mined 

• Safety indicators (TRIFR, near-miss reporting)

Qualifications & Experience:

• Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering or related field (desirable) 

• Must have strong operational team leading experience

• Strong understanding of fleet management systems and production cycles 

• Proven leadership experience in a supervisory or management role.  

• Strong knowledge of production processes, safety standards, and quality systems.  

• Experience working with contractors in large-scale open pit mining environments 

• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.  

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.  

• Familiarity with HSE standards and regulatory compliance requirements 

• Experience working in remote or international mining operations. 

• Training and assessment qualifications would be advantageous. 

• Proven ability to train, mentor, and develop operational personnel. 

• Proficiency in French & Mandarin (written and verbal) would be highly desirable.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
