As the Production Planner, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and actively managing large commercial orders through the production process to ensure they are completed and shipped within the promised lead time. You will work closely with the Commercial Projects Team, Operations Director, and Department Directors to translate operational strategy into actionable production plans, coordinate capacity and priorities, and maintain consistent, on-time performance for commercial projects.

What you’ll do

  • Independently develops, manages and adjusts production plans on assigned large commercial projects from release through shipment.
  • Build and maintain production schedules that align available capacity, material availability, processing requirements, and promised lead times.
  • Walk the production floor regularly to monitor the progress of assigned orders and verify that work is moving according to plan.
  • Coordinate the movement of large and complex orders through multiple departments and production processes.
  • Partner with Department Directors and production teams to establish priorities and keep critical work moving.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Projects Team (CPT) in planning and coordinating internal production requirements for projects involving third-party vendors.
  • Monitor order progress and identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints, material issues, stalled work, and other risks before they impact the customer.
  • Develop and communicate recovery plans when an order falls behind schedule or conditions change.
  • Continuously adjust production plans based on real-time capacity, equipment availability, material status, and changing priorities.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Projects Team to understand project requirements, timelines, and priorities adapting plans accordingly..
  • Provide timely visibility to the Operations Director and Department Directors regarding project status, capacity concerns, and potential risks to promised lead times.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date production status information for assigned projects.
  • Use production data, operational metrics, and on-the-floor observations to make informed planning decisions.
  • Escalate issues that require additional resources, cross-functional decisions, or leadership support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of  3 years experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience independently developing and managing production plans for complex, high-value, or multi-department projects.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, including capacity planning, production scheduling, material flow, resource constraints, quality requirements, and lead-time management and operational metrics..
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Ability to interpret production data, schedules, and operational metrics.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or related software

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working with large or complex commercial orders.
  • Experience in metal fabrication, CNC, laser cutting, bending, powder coating, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience coordinating work across multiple production departments or facilities.
  • Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, or manufacturing operations.
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement experience.

Essential Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments for extended periods
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs while conducting shop floor reviews
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment, materials, and processes to assess quality and safety
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally 
  • Ability to work in environments with noise, moving equipment, temperature variation, and industrial hazards while following safety protocols

Work Environment

  • This role works across office and manufacturing environments and requires regular presence on the shop floor 
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) when in manufacturing areas
  • Exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal materials 

Skills Required

  • At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, operations, or a related field
  • Experience independently developing and managing production plans for complex, high-value, or multi-department projects
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, capacity planning, production scheduling, material flow, resource constraints, quality requirements, lead-time management, and operational metrics
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
