Role Summary:
The Production Planner is responsible for developing and managing an executable production schedule that aligns with customer demand, site capacity, and network priorities. This role ensures that manufacturing orders are planned, released, and executed in alignment with SAP scheduling, enabling on-time delivery (OTD), optimal utilization, and effective working capital management. The Production Planner serves as the primary link between Inventory Control, Manufacturing, and the broader QRC network to ensure production flow is accurate, timely, and efficient.
Responsibilities:
Production Scheduling & Execution
Develop and maintain a daily executable production schedule within SAP based on capacity and demand
Ensure all production orders are properly scheduled, aligned to routing times, and feasible within available hours
Monitor and manage overload situations, ensuring no day is scheduled beyond available capacity
Reschedule work proactively based on changes in capacity, material availability, or priorities
Order Management & Release Discipline
Ensure production orders are released in alignment with required completion dates
Validate that acknowledgement dates and need dates are accurate to drive correct scheduling and purchasing
Collaborate with Inventory Control to ensure timely conversion of planned orders to production orders
Capacity Management
Maintain accurate capacity in SAP, including labor availability, absences, holidays, and approved overtime
Align production schedules to true available capacity, adjusting for real-time changes
Drive visibility and action on capacity gaps and constraints
Cross-Functional Coordination
Partner with Manufacturing Supervisors to ensure the shop floor executes to the SAP schedule
Coordinate with Inventory Control and Buyers to ensure material availability aligns with production timing
Collaborate with regional planners and other sites to balance load across the network when needed
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
Monitor key metrics including:
On-Time Delivery (OTD)
Schedule Adherence
Utilization
Past Due Backlog
Identify and drive actions to resolve schedule misalignment, inefficiencies, and execution gaps
Support standardization of planning processes across the QRC network
Data Accuracy & System Integrity
Ensure SAP data accuracy for:
Production order dates
Capacity inputs
Routing alignment
Maintain clear and accurate order-level communication (e.g., comments for expedites or changes)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations
- Good communication and organizational skills required with the ability to work well with all levels of employees and internal departments in a diverse environment.
- Experience working within ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Strong understanding of capacity planning and production scheudling principles
- Proficient Microsoft Excel skills
- Must be willing and able to travel occasionally (estimated 5–10%).
Preferred:
- Fluency and proficiency in the practical application of MRP logic, scheduling logic, order policies, capacity planning, input/output control, product structures, routings, and standards maintenance.
- Knowledgeable in master scheduling, production planning and detailed scheduling, demand management, purchasing, and cost accounting techniques.
- Superior analytical and problem solving skills.
- Experience with SysPro is preferred.
