We are now looking to recruit a Production Engineer - Metal Forming (DWI 2-Piece Can) within our Production Engineering Department of Bevcan EMEA, based at our centre in Wantage (UK) or preferably at one of our European plant locations.
The scope of the role is to support 12 manufacturing locations in Europe (UK, France, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Greece, Germany and Turkey) and 5 in the Middle East and North Africa (UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia). You will also be involved in project work at new greenfield sites and newly acquired manufacturing locations.
Join us and participate in all the improvement activities of the Metal Forming to improve all standards of the manufacturing processes in terms of quality, cost and efficiency.
Primary areas of activity and responsibility for the role include: Coil Handling, Cupping system, Bodymakers, Trimmers, Necker, Flanger, Reformer, Die sets, Tooling and Lubricants applied in the forming process.
You provide regular plant operational support for quality issues and support in maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting, implementing best practices and follow-up with issues and improvement projects.
You realise Line operation and technical audits and propose improvements opportunities through respective projects.
You promote the development of SOP’s, Best Practices and Cost Reduction Programmes for regular operation and changeover conditions. You deliver classroom and hands-on the job training in Metal Forming equipment and processes.
You take part in the Lean Manufacturing and Sustainability strategy of the Group towards materials’ consumption reduction and process waste removal by supporting any new materials’ trials and process-challenging activities.
You liaise with CROWN Technology on equipment, tooling, materials and process improvements and standardisation of specifications. You pass on the local Plant Teams new technologies and operational standards and you act as an ambassador of the Company’s operational culture towards the main manufacturing-related KPIs.
About you:
The successful candidate has a sound engineering background/ or you are qualified to ONC, HNC, HND or degree level. You are highly experienced in 2pc engineering and process knowledge, with a safety mind-set. You have the ability to acquire and utilise knowledge in the specific areas of cupping, bodymaking and necking. You are able to show proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels and you demonstrate with a logical approach, high levels of problem-solving and effective decision-making skills. A self-starter, you are an effective team player, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. You are as well computer literate. You are flexible to travel at short notice and for extended periods overseas, with the willingness to adapt to different cultures and circumstances.
Skills Required
- Engineering qualification (ONC, HNC, HND or degree)
- Extensive experience in 2-piece can engineering and metal forming processes
- Safety mindset and adherence to safety standards
- Knowledge/ability to acquire expertise in cupping, bodymaking and necking
- Experience with coil handling, trimmers, necker, flanger, reformer, die sets and tooling
- Proven clear and concise communication at all levels
- Strong problem-solving and effective decision-making skills
- Leadership, interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
- Computer literate
- Willingness and flexibility to travel at short notice and for extended periods overseas
- Ability to develop SOPs, deliver classroom and hands-on training, and lead cost reduction programmes
