Position Summary:

The function of this role is to support Product Owner activities out of Dexcom's Software Center of Excellence located in Portland, Oregon. This person will help plan, direct, and coordinate activities to create and deliver best-in-class software and processes. This role is the interface between strategic planning and delivery, supporting the needs of the business and the customer. The Product Owner represents the business in prioritizing the features for development, writing user stories, and ensuring clear communication with the development teams. The individual will help shape and execute product strategy that meets the department goals by assisting in communicating the overall vision, objectives, and goals of the product. This person will participate in the Agile process and enable delivery of Product Backlog by creating and refining, well-formed user stories and artifacts, that describe and detail new products, features, and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner extensively with engineering, product management, and other internal stakeholders, to deliver product roadmap and drive feature implementation.
  • Translate product vision and roadmap into well-defined product requirements/user stories and user acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to build, prioritize, and define workflows and requirements
  • Effectively communicates relevant information to all levels of the organization
  • Communicates issues and status reports to leadership and/or stakeholders; works to establish consensus and resolve issues
  • Collaborates daily with development teams to refine, groom, and accept stories and bugs for implementation
  • Represents the team, when needed, to external stakeholders, leaders, and other teams to ensure alignment and understanding progress of the team



The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with scrum and other agile development methods
  • Project management, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives at one time
  • The ability to quickly analyze issues, develop solutions and effectively communicate recommendations
  • Be proficient in articulating complex data concepts and issues in clear terms; interprets business issues and communicates ramifications of decisions to leadership and stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to display a range of communication approaches for diverse community needs
  • Working knowledge in Jira, Confluence, Slack, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams



Required Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with software development principles and knowledge of the full life-cycle of a software development product.
  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.)
  • Project management certification (PMP, etc.) --OR-- Agile practice certification (CSPO, PSPO, etc.) --OR-- Business Analyst certification (CBAP, etc.)
  • Minimum 1 year experience participating in an Agile delivery team in a Scrum Master/Product Owner role, or 1 year in a Product Management/Business Analyst role
  • Experience with Atlassian software products (JIRA, Confluence)



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience building regulated software for the medical field.
  • Experience as a Product Owner for web and mobile applications.



Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience or Masters degree and 0-2 years equivalent experience.



Functional Description

Functions as a key stakeholder of a project and represents the customer to the development team. Responsible to have a vision of what he or she wishes to build, and convey the vision to the scrum team in order to successfully start an agile software development project. Oversees the product backlog, which is a prioritized features list for the product. Responsible for creating the list of backlog items and prioritizing them based on the overall strategy and business objectives. Responsible for bridging the gap between customer needs and delivery of the tangible product features, by translating customer language into technical details the developers can interpret to initiate development. Prioritizes the product backlog during the sprint planning meeting, selects the amount of work to be done during each sprint, and how many sprints will be required. Works with the development team to answer any questions team members have regarding the customer's view of how they're implementing a product feature. Seen as an expert at understanding and anticipating the client's needs to more effectively manage the development process.

  • Possesses a high level of theoretical knowledge. Ability to deliver technical ideas that have an impact on the objectives. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies aligned to the technical and business goals.



Scope

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency. Works on moderately complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interprets data and draws conclusions regarding results used in presented material.



Judgement

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.
