Description
The Vehicle Motion and Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization is looking for a Chassis Electronics Product Owner (PO), who will lead a scrum team that is responsible for the integration and delivery of a brake, steering, suspension, or driveline electronic controller(s) that meets program priorities while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity! You will be responsible for maximizing the value of the output of the Agile Team, serving as the Customer Proxy and ensuring the Team understands and implements solution intent within the business context.
About VMEC
Our organization is at the center of any technology that enables the vehicle to move, turn and stop. VMEC is responsible for the development and deployment of complex embedded controllers specific to propulsion and chassis control systems utilizing the principles of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). These controllers support cutting edge features, such active safety, autonomous, trailer braking, crab walk. The race is on to deliver engaging, meaningful in-vehicle experiences! This space is ripe with technical leadership opportunities for advanced technology development, as well as the ability to provide mentorship for new employees. You can flex your teamwork muscles as you will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering and the business.
The main activities of the role are:
Product Vision and Backlog Management

  • Create, refine, maintain and prioritize the Product Team Backlog for assigned controllers.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the product content.
  • Determine appropriate product Release Date and Content
  • Collaborate with the Program Management Team to refine the ART/Agile Team program vision and roadmap for the assigned controllers.
  • Communicate cross functionally both internally and externally to gain alignment.
  • Determine enablers and dependencies and collaboratively work with other teams to ensure timely execution with quality.
  • Accept or reject the product teams work results at each Sprint Review meeting, if applicable.
  • Provide regular reporting including product scope, schedule and planning
  • Ensure requirements are met by supporting design reviews, DFMEAs, DRBFMs, etc and collaborating with test and validation teams to ensure appropriate test coverage.
  • Participate in SAFe ceremonies, as applicable
  • Perform retrospectives for continuous learning.

Customer Satisfaction

  • Be the customer voice to the Agile Team. Provide the team with clear information on whom the current and potential customers are, as well as the how, why, when, and with whom they use the product.
  • Ensure the technical integrity of the product is maintained and enables the solution to address program priorities by addressing anomalies and other quality concerns in a timely manner.
  • Define clear acceptance criteria and determine demo/sprint schedule to prove out.
  • Ensure engineering records are complete and stored appropriately (ie. DFMEAs, ECU PoE, etc)

Partner/Supplier Management

  • Collaboratively develop agile methodologies to address pain points.
  • Collaboratively develop the Partner/Supplier Sprint Schedule

This Role Offers The Following Work Appropriately Strategy
Hybrid - This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired
Additional Description Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • Knowledge of and minimum 2 years of experience in controls system development. Including:
  • Control system integration and testing of hardware and software.
  • Controller hardware design and failure modes of electronic modules.
  • Vehicle electrical systems and serial data communications architectures.
  • System, software, and hardware requirements development and validation.
  • Change management
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills


Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a field of Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • 7-10 years of experience in vehicle chassis controls system development.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) training or certifications.
  • Experience in the GM component specification and release process.
  • Experience with customer interface technologies.
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of OBD-II diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of automotive safety integrity levels (ASIL).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Global environment.
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
