Whether you are taking a ride to your office, airport, visiting a friend, or having your favorite delights delivered to your door, Uber Maps experiences group strives to make every movement seamless. The role spans all Uber's product lines to power billions of trips and deliveries across >10,000 cities around the planet.
As the Head of Product for Maps experiences, you will own and drive the roadmap, and lead a team of product leads and product managers, for building the most engaging and compelling experiences for our drivers, riders, couriers, and eaters. With our unique and scalable technical stack, you will launch competitive differentiators that will grow Uber as the preferred platform of choice for our customers. You will lead with deep customer empathy, and rely on data and user research to make informed decisions with solid product instincts. You will lead the teams and initiatives responsible for the 'bread and butter' of every Uber trip or delivery - how riders select or refine their pickup and dropoff location when requesting a ride, how drivers and couriers navigate from point A → B, the map display "canvas" for Uber and all the last 100-meter experiences that make Uber's trip experiences unique.
These core trip experiences (and ML-powered platforms underneath) set the foundation to answer complex questions like: How do we build a scalable, personalized experience that determines and serves the best navigation, pickup & drop-off locations across all Uber products (riders, drivers/couriers, eaters, bikers, and freight users)? How do we improve our understanding of user location accuracy (walking/in-train/stationary, side of the street, in-door/out-door, localization, etc)? How do we best communicate location information and pickup/dropoff points meaningfully to all consumers? And more.
What the Candidate Will Do:

  • Create and deliver on coherent product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the core trip experiences - Pickup and Drop Off, Navigation, and Map Display at Uber.
  • Own the Pickup and Dropoff experiences vision, reducing friction/time during requesting a ride, and personalization of Pickup/Dropoff for all mobility products.
  • Own the Uber Core Navigation vision enabling millions of drivers and couriers to earn in a stress-free safe and efficient manner.
  • Own the roadmap for last-mile experiences across rides and deliveries. Internalize and deeply understand Uber's products like Pool, UberX, Eats and how they rely on core pickup and dropoff platform and then align your team's mission and roadmap with this direction
  • Drive strategic partnerships with third parties and evaluate build vs. buy trade-offs to build unique core trip and last-mile experiences.
  • Drive cross-functional team to set qualitative objectives and quantitative goals by analyzing data from user research, observability, diagnostics, and benchmarking.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8 years of product management experience delivering highly successful and innovative products with your fingerprints all over them -- and you're deeply proud of what you've accomplished
  • Leadership and management - You enjoy coaching, empowering, and growing product teams. You invest in mentoring colleagues beyond your direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Maximize efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a thirst for learning

An Insider's view of Uber

What’s the vibe like in the office?

When I went into the office for my final interview with Uber, I had the same feeling that I did when I stepped onto my college’s campus for the first time: it just felt like the right fit. The office was high-paced but also relaxed and you could immediately tell that people were friends and genuinely enjoyed being there.

Paige Sammarco

Account Executive, Uber Eats

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

One of the big challenges today with experimentation is around guaranteeing correctness, especially for small changes to ensure confidence in results. Was that change the cause of new behavior? Did other experiments get in the way? It all comes down to how accurately you can detect small changes within consumer behavior.

Azarias Reda

Head of Uber's Experimentation API team

What makes someone successful on your team?

"It’s not just about the individual contributor. The most successful people are the ones learning from others. On my team, I make sure that everyone shares best practices and we foster a collaborative culture. So when you’re on a call, you’re never really alone. And that applies to everyone."

Ali Faivus

Head of Mid-Market Sales

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

We make sure we don’t ship org structures, but rather aligned products. How can our products complement one another, building upon each other to achieve our primary goals? Whether it’s scheduling, routing, predictive analytics, or operational excellence, we are acting as one, and smartly leveraging our domains and strengths.

Joe Chang

Director of Engineering, Uber Freight

How does your team reward individual success?

I believe recognizing someone’s contributions are a big part of team play. On our weekly meetings, we always start with a shout-out, and it’s amazing how this simple topic stimulates the team to recognize small victories and accredit colleagues for their accomplishments. This brings our team together and fosters a more collaborative environment.

Silvia Penna

Sr Manager, Central Operations
