Engineering Product Manager III
As an Engineering Product Manager at C.H. Robinson, you will leverage your passion for delivering world class products to translate business problems into user stories and features that delight our Global Forwarding customers and achieve business objectives. Your focus will be developing, enhancing, and maintaining our Customs product with an emphasis towards our Canadian business.
Our Customs product is one of the newer programs within our Global Forwarding umbrella that can advance personal growth as the program expands. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with software engineers, project managers, and other product managers on high visibility projects in an environment that is challenging, rewarding, and promotes creativity, personal development, and fun. You will be responsible for accurately gathering, consolidating, analyzing and documenting business rules and detailed requirements. Your contribution is considered critical and vital to C.H. Robinson's worldwide logistics operations and its continued growth and success.
Our main priority continues to be the health and safety of our employees. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be remote until further notice. We will continue monitoring the circumstances and when we feel comfortable, this position will return to the office in Eden Prairie, MN where you will have an opportunity to collaborate face-to-face with a talented and diverse group of peers.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and translate business, customer, and user needs into software development work for complex features in the billing domain to create solutions and deliver business value; ensure alignment with product roadmap
- Analyze and document identified business process and/or improvement needs given information from multiple stakeholders and data sources
- Stay informed of evolving business strategies, identify underlying business needs by leveraging different tools and techniques; apply this knowledge to communicate and validate the software development work and desired outcomes to your team and dependent teams
- Take a data-driven approach to identifying key metrics and ensuring that epics improve them
- Create, review, and coach others on writing clear, concise user stories with testable acceptance criteria to represent planned work
- Create release documentation such as release notes, training documentation, error messages, and knowledge base articles
- Apply domain knowledge of the supply chain industry to deliver epics; understand existing products and solutions and how they impact other epics being delivered
- Set deliverables for the billing domain and keep team leaders and business partners informed on deliverables; identify and escalate risks that could impact project or feature deadlines
- Partner with others to create, coordinate and execute on test plans
- Respond to and prioritize support incidents, including diagnosing the issue, understanding the impact, and working with your team and others to determine and prioritize a potential fix
- Research and stay informed on comparable products in the market and what competitors are doing; leverage this information to guide what your business and customers are requesting
- Lead regular discussions with your business partners, resolve conflict and influence decisions; partner with stakeholders, principal software engineers and leaders to determine what a successful outcome looks like and consistently and broadly communicate the business value of the work
- Recognize when others need assistance and act as a coach and mentor for them
- Partner with the business and technical leadership to understand and champion the overall vision within the team
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of combined engineering product management and industry experience
- 2 +years of experience delivering projects using agile and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies
- Bachelor's degree or minimum 4 years of equivalent work experience and high school diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven ability to understand technical and non-technical details and bridge the knowledge gap between your business and technical teams
- Results driven with an understanding of how to evaluate, deliver, and validate business value
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to assess an audience and adjust content, style, and approach to meet their needs
- Experience facilitating meetings, keeping focus, balancing multiple viewpoints from stakeholders, and resolving conflict as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to take on multiple priorities, prioritize work for self and others, manage time effectively, and deliver on commitments
- A learning and growth mindset that is open to giving and receiving feedback and coaching others to do the same
- Experience managing the delivery of complex software projects
- Proficient with agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies
