Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Micron Technology is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented PYE Physical Failure Analysis (PFA) Engineer to join our Product Yield Enhancement team. This role is critical in identifying physical root causes of semiconductor device failures and driving yield and reliability improvements across DRAM and HBM technologies.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Identify causes of low yield through validation of electrical analysis data and hands-on, comprehensive physical failure analysis (PFA).
- Perform device decapsulation, non-destructive inspection (X-ray, C-SAM), and layer-by-layer deprocessing using wet/dry etching and mechanical polishing.
- Operate advanced microscopy tools including SEM, FIB, and TEM; perform EDX and PVC analysis for defect localization and characterization.
- Utilize statistical tools for detailed data analysis to support yield improvement projects.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Process, Test, and Quality Engineering teams to resolve process and defect-related issues.
- Document and report findings with annotated images and clear root cause summaries.
- Follow lab procedures and chemical safety protocols; certify in chemical handling and lab safety.
- Apply best known methods (BKMs) and contribute to the development of new analysis techniques.
Expectations
- Train and gain hands-on experience in advanced PFA techniques and semiconductor failure mechanisms.
- Use internal training resources to build familiarity with manufacturing processes and test flows.
- Develop expert-level proficiency in SEM and FIB operation.
- Maintain strong internal customer relationships and communicate findings effectively.
- Support rotating shift schedules (day/night) in 4-month intervals.
- Demonstrate flexibility, ownership, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Education & Experience
- Master's degree (MSE) in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in manufacturing, front-end fab, back-end assembly, or test is a plus but not required.
Desired Behaviors
- Strong teamwork, self-development, and drive for results.
- High integrity, trust, and safety awareness.
- Excellent organizational and independent problem-solving skills.
- Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and adaptable.
