Job Summary:This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at CSA Group. A Product Safety Engineer is required to join our team to work on compliance certification of hazardous location (HAZLOC) equipment.
The Position:
As a Product Safety Engineer on the HAZLOC team; you will work on a variety of projects and provide high quality certification service to meet the clients’ needs. You'll have the ability to interpret standards, follow processes and procedures, as well as provide technical guidance.
You should have experience in this area and be familiar with Hazloc standards (IEC 60079 series), the IECEx Scheme, the ATEX Directive and ideally, the North American certification process and division standards. You will have the opportunity to work with clients from across the globe, to assist in certifying their products where you will review samples, drawings, schematics and reports to ensure complete safety compliance to CSA Standards
Successful applicants will be customer-focused and have a background in manufacturing, process, or compliance assessment. In addition, good communication, change management, problem solving and project management skills are essential.
Responsibilities:
Manage certification projects concurrently ensuring compliance with all applicable safety requirements. Achieve completion of projects within time frames and quality standards.
The ability to consistently manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining on-time and on-budget performance.
Review test data, reports and authorizes the issuance of Certification Marks. Prepares and/or signs Certification Reports and Certificates of Compliance.
Demonstrates understanding of the process and accreditation requirements of reports and certification documents.
Liaise with customers in the design stage to ensure requirements of national/ international standards are met.
Determine applicable requirements, test and standards.
Determine sample requirements for testing.
Prepare Test Lab Work Orders and Special Testing Documentation that includes details regarding applicable sections of relevant standards, test sample plan, data collection methods and tables.
Provides necessary guidance to Lab Technicians to ensure proper application of requirements.
Conduct on-site assessments and/or test work at the clients’ premises. There will be a requirement to travel to other Group or client’s premises, both domestically and overseas.
Education and Experience:
A Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant compliance experience in an industrial manufacturing business.
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in a comparable function
Experience in hazardous location and/or industrial equipment.
Prior experience in product certification is essential (IEC/EN 60079 series standards) with experience in certification to CSA/UL standards highly desirable.
Skills:
Knowledge of Standards, testing procedures and knowledge of the certification process preferred.
High level of interpersonal and communication skills; customer service skills, strong problem-solving ability; detail oriented
Strong organizational, time and project management skills to complete job tasks in a time-efficient manner
Ability to work in a team-based work environment
Able to read and interpret technical documentation (engineering drawings, schematics, test data) and create technical reports
Willingness and ability to travel.
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office products); typing proficiency a plus
Use of various lab equipment, instruments and tools is desirable
