Position Overview:The Product Reliability Manager is the senior technical resource for the Expanded Mining product line and is responsible for leading focused efforts within the areas of technical documentation for Expanded mining component rebuilds, product upgrades, quality, Warranty, Failure Analysis and Reliability specific to Expanded Mining products.
This position is charged with developing and maintaining effective documentation and providing overall technical support to OEM technicians on the rebuilds of Expanded mining components at OEM, along with support lines of communication between Finning customers and end users. A key result will be quick, effective and permanent responses to issues negatively impacting component rebuild velocity, customer satisfaction and profitability.

Job Description:
  • Manage and distribute technical documents relating to ERS and Drills component rebuilds technical and provide clear, concise and updated information and support EMP component rebuild technicians with current and updated technical documentation
  • Provide and manage internal quality oversight on OEM component rebuilds through Nonconformance process
  • Work with Finning Field Engineers, along with CAT district reps and product groups to support ERS and Drills and attend and actively participate in CPI calls
  • Using extensive product knowledge and strong understanding of OEM/Finning and Caterpillar warranty policies, establish a rigorous and formal process to identify and report on root cause of failure
  • Lead the failure analysis and warranty administration activities for Expanded Mining products in a manner that ensures OEM/Finning’s interests are protected.  This position is responsible for determination of warranty consideration from a technical point of view and will be required to participate in discussions of a technical nature with customers, end users and suppliers on an as needed basis.  Provide adequate and timely feedback from failure analyses to process stakeholders and ensure deficiencies requiring corrective action are identified and addressed in an appropriate manner
  • Review warranty and failure analysis reports for onward transmission to customers.  Ensure that all prepared warranty reports meet benchmarks for technical accuracy and that the disposition of the claims, based on parts and labour categorizations, is correct.  Ensured evidence gathered is collected and presented in a manner suitable for onward transmission to the claim applicant
  • Ensure warranty and reliability data is accurately collected for use in ongoing statistical analysis.  Develop and maintain classifications for warrantable claims that permit effective data analysis and efficient identification of necessary corrective action ~ ie, convert warranty and failure analysis data into management information upon which actions can be based
  • Identify and incorporate required Service Literature in BOMs and record for product change meeting also to Update documentation based upon, technician request and CAT service literature
  • Ensure that warranty and policy claims to Caterpillar are identified and properly supported and that administrative practices are followed to maximize the timing and recovery from Caterpillar
  • Establish systematic reviews of available internal and external data to identify emerging issues.  Use these analyses to secure resources that result in product improvements
  • Understand the commercial aspects of the product line and ensure that good decisions are being made to drive increased profitability Drive initiatives that lead to reduced operating costs for end users covering both technical or commercial solutions
  • Align company resources behind improvement initiatives that will result in improved quality and longevity of OEM rebuilt components
  • Participate fully in OEM, Customer or supplier conference calls, test iron or product improvement initiatives
  • Involvement in test bench failures resulting in corrective actions and troubleshooting and diagnosis of components unable to pass test bench quality controls
  • Participate in and drive overall department strategy and objectives in conjunctions with Senior and management to set clear direction and engaging objectives for the Expanded Mining Team while ensuring effective management of individual workloads in accordance with business needs
  • Demonstrate and promote co-operative work environment and with other team members in order to achieve shared goals.  Proactively offer support to others in order to drive solutions
  •  Provide coaching and career path planning to technicians and junior tech leads

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing or technical service position with demonstrated ability to manage workloads and proactively with strong work ethic and sense of urgency
  • Mechanical Engineering background coupled with an aptitude understanding of mechanical and electrical drive systems
  • Strong understanding of technical knowledge of Caterpillar Expanded Mining Equipment e.g 7495 Electric Rope shovels, 6640 Rotary drills is considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of the failure analysis process and root cause determination
  • Strong knowledge of OEM/Finning health and safety policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of OEM and Caterpillar warranty and goodwill policies
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication and presentation skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with team members
  • Competent with MS Word and Excel.  Knowledge of MS Access and asset
  • Competent operating in a mid-scale ERP environment
