JOB SUMMARY

This position is eligible for remote work in one of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming. This position will require some travel for office meetings, as needed, to our corporate office in Tulsa, OK.

Job Profile Summary
This position will be a key contributor within a dynamic, highly motivated team focused on ushering in a new generation of industry-leading digital solutions to position the company as the midstream operator of choice. The Product Owner will have the opportunity to be a part of the full product life cycle of highly complex products and offerings to ensure various aspects of the refined products business are serving the current and future needs of the company's customers, as well as directly impact the bottom line of the company. The Product Owner will be independently motivated and deliberately collaborative. In addition, the Product Owner will have extensive analytical skills to solve business problems utilizing technology, serve as a change agent for the organization, and be willing to learn as needed to solve real-world problems continuously.

Often has unique knowledge in the area of specialty plus solid knowledge of other related fields. Organizes, examines, and analyzes information to provide resolution to a diverse range of complex problems/issues where analysis requires evaluation of variable factors and solutions often require creativity and a broad knowledge base to provide resolutions. Work is completed without considerable direction and acts independently to determine methods/procedures to obtain results. Generally, only special assignments may be reviewed to ensure objectives have been met. Failure to obtain results or erroneous judgement/recommendations may result in the inability to reach crucial department/organizational goals and may have serious prolonged effects or impacts.
 

A Product Owner (PO) serves as the bridge between business stakeholders and development teams, ensuring the backlog is prioritized to deliver maximum value. They refine user stories, clarify acceptance criteria, and drive Agile execution to maintain product momentum. Unlike a Product Manager, who focuses on broader product strategy, the Product Owner works at the tactical level to ensure execution aligns with customer needs and business goals.

A “Day in the Life” of a Product Owner

  • 8:30 AM: Review sprint progress and identify blockers with the development team.

  • 9:00 AM: Participate in daily stand-up, clarifying scope and removing roadblocks.

  • 10:00 AM: Meet with Product Manager and stakeholders to align on upcoming priorities.

  • 11:00 AM: Conduct backlog refinement, ensuring stories are detailed and estimated.

  • 1:00 PM: Analyze customer feedback and product usage data to refine priorities.

  • 2:00 PM: Work with designers and developers to finalize acceptance criteria for an upcoming feature.

  • 3:30 PM: Prepare for upcoming sprint planning, ensuring the backlog is ready.

  • 4:30 PM: Respond to developers questions and update documentation as needed.

Formal Education:

  • Not strictly required but common backgrounds include:

    • Bachelor’s in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

    • Certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager are advantageous.

Experience Prerequisites

  • Prior experience in product, business analysis, customer success, or related roles is highly valuable.

  • For external hires: Typically 2-3 years in a related field before entering as an Associate Product Owner or Product Owner.

Before progressing to higher levels, individuals must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Product backlog management and prioritization techniques (e.g., MoSCoW, RICE).

  • Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).

  • Writing user stories and defining acceptance criteria.

  • Stakeholder management and communication.

  • Basic understanding of the product domain and market.
