The Product Owner - Project Alignment sits at the centre of Product Owner & Project Management communication, supporting effective project execution. This role operates with a deliberate 50/50 split:
- half the time, you are embedded alongside Project Managers bringing product development updates and issues to their attention,
- the other half, you are the expert on everything that's going on with our projects, ensuring Product Owners know ongoing priorities.
You also collaborate with other SpryPoint teams (eg. Solutions Architects, Sales, Proposals) and Clients to facilitate resolutions.
You'll have real authority to:
- Bring development process knowledge into Project Manager conversations: help Project Managers understand the 'why' behind what they're building, not just the 'what'
- Highlight risks: whether from customer, or from development side, keep all areas aligned.
- Retrieve and translate Project Management issues: surface blockers and escalations from the PM side and reframe them for Product Owner consumption
- Retrieve and translate Product Owner issues: surface delays and their reasoning to keep Project Management abreast of issues occurring.
- Push back on commitments that aren't feasible, and propose alternatives that are
⚒️ Responsibilities
- You are the product voice that ensures Project Management's delivery concerns are surfaced, understood, and addressed across the Product Owner and development organizations.
- Regularly retrieve open issues, blockers, and escalations from Project Managers
- Translate Project Management issues into product-relevant language, reframing delivery concerns so Product Owners can make informed decisions quickly
- Track resolution of translated issues and close the loop with the Project Management once action has been taken
- Identify systemic issues (not one-offs) and bring them to the Group Product Manager with a recommended path forward
- You embed alongside Project Managers as a product-fluent support resource, communicating development issues from Product Owners and bringing product and delivery experience to identify risks before they materialize.
- Flag risks clearly to the Project Manager in language they can act on, including recommendations
- Escalate risks that require Product Owner visibility before work proceeds
- Track patterns in recurring risk types and contribute to process improvements that reduce them
- Collaborate directly with Sales, Solutions Architects, and Clients to facilitate resolutions
Project Manager Support Track (50%)
🙅♂️ What This Role Does Not Do
- You will not run sprint ceremonies or manage a delivery team's backlog. Delivery Product Owners do that.
- You will not own the SpryCIS roadmap. You contribute insights and patterns, but you are not the strategy seat.
- You will not project-manage RFP responses end-to-end. You are a contributor, not the orchestrator.
- You will not handle customer success or post-go-live escalations. Customer Success owns those.
- You will not own Project Manager workflows end-to-end. You support Project Managers with translation of development process issues: you are not their project coordinator, and you do not own their timelines or delivery accountability.
🎯 Required Qualifications
- 3+ years as a Product Owner, Project Manager, or equivalent (BA with PO scope, Solution Consultant, Technical Product Manager) in B2B, with personal experience producing project documentation and working with development teams
- Experience operating across both Product and Project Management contexts — you understand how PMs and POs think, and operate credibly in both. This includes PMs with product-adjacent work, POs who've embedded in customer implementations, BAs and Implementation Consultants who've lived in the middle, or current POs/PMs broadening into cross-functional coordination
- Estimation discipline — you understand order-of-magnitude vs committed estimates, and can defend an estimate under pressure
- Strong stakeholder management — you lead rooms with mixed business and technical participants and leave with consensus
- Comfortable with ambiguity — go toward unclear scope and bring back clarity
- Risk identification — frame risks in a way that drives action, not just flags them
- Fluent in Jira and Confluence; active use of modern AI tooling in your workflow
🌟 Strongly Preferred
- Hands-on experience with utility Customer Information Systems (CIS), utility billing, meter-to-cash, customer self-service portals, or mobile field tools
- Experience working alongside Project Managers in a support or bridge capacity: helping them produce artefacts, surface risks, and communicate with product and project teams
🚀 This Role Is a Great Fit If You
- You are a generalist that enjoys operating in two modes: communicate to product owners and developers one moment, project support the next - and find the context-switching energizing rather than draining
- Get satisfaction from helping Project Managers succeed: highlight issues in an open, transparent manner, and work toward mitigation
- Push back well: you'd rather have the hard conversation now than the much harder one six months in
⚠️ This Role Is Not a Great Fit If You
- You want to own a product roadmap or projects end-to-end
- You prefer the rhythm of running a delivery team's backlog and sprint cadence
- You want to avoid sales-driven or client-facing work
- You need predictable, low-pressure work cycles (sales activity is bursty by nature)
