We’re looking for a  Product Owner - Finance Tech Team

You’ll be working with a team of developers to enable iwoca’s growth through seamless customer payments and reliable financial data.

About us

Fast, flexible finance empowers small businesses to manage their cash flow better and seize opportunities - making their business and the economy stronger as a whole. At iwoca, we do just that. We help businesses get the funds they need, when they need it, often within minutes. We’ve already made several billion in funding available to over 100,000 businesses since we launched in 2012 and positioned ourselves as a leading Fintech in Europe.

Our mission is to finance one million businesses. We’ll get there by continuing to make our finance ever more relevant and accessible to more businesses by combining cutting-edge technology, data science, and a 5-star customer service.

The role

  • Roadmap Development and Commercial Alignment:

    • Gather, shape and prioritise roadmap items, feature requests and maintenance needs.

    • Act as the main point of contact for business stakeholders to make sure that the team and the business stay aligned on progress and goals.

    • Define and communicate the strategic direction and goals for an engineering team.

  • Technical Oversight and Problem-Solving:

    • Collaborate with engineers to break down complex technical challenges into manageable components. Facilitate effective problem-solving within the team, fostering agility and adaptability.

    • Work with stakeholders and engineers to craft comprehensive product and feature requirement documents that align business objectives and user needs.

  • Feature Delivery and Monitoring:

    • Plan, scope, and deliver projects, managing intermediate milestones and removing blockers.

    • Set clear goals and work with the engineers in the team to balance delivery responsibility across the team.

    • Ensure the quality of delivery, by following up post-release to proactively find and resolve bugs

    • Work with business stakeholders to track success metrics and evaluate the impact of projects after they have concluded so that we can constantly learn from what we deliver.

  • Performance Monitoring:

    • Track and report on key performance indicators to understand our system health. Use this to work with engineers to identify and scope work to improve system health and scalability.

The projects

  • Payment providers: We will be integrating several new payment partners to facilitate payments to and from our customers. Each new partner requires collaboration with stakeholders across the business, including finance, compliance, and operations teams. Delivery will involve shaping the requirements, planning milestones, user testing and keeping the wider business up to date with progress.

  • Reconciliation: In order to increase our Finance team’s operational efficiency as we scale our reconciliation system requires updating. Work on this system requires diving into our analytics to find areas of improvement, working with finance to align on new features to build and monitoring changes over time.

  • Loan features: We have new loan product features planned, building on previous additions like revenue-based repayments, interest-only periods, and government guarantees. The Finance tech team is responsible for core operations of all products: repayment schedules, money movements and financial reporting.

The team

The Finance tech team works closely with our CFO, Head of Capital Markets and Financial Operations Lead. Our team’s mission is to enable growth through seamless customer payments and reliable financial data. Frictionless payments are core to iwoca’s excellent customer service. Financial data is used by Finance, other business stakeholders as well as investors, so it is crucial it is up-to-date and accurate.

The Finance tech team has a Tech Lead and six developers, predominantly back-end, although we have been becoming more full-stack this year. We follow Agile-inspired processes, using continuous integration and delivery, so that features go live in days or weeks, not months or years.

Requirements:

  • Essential skills:

    • Proven experience as a Product Owner, a similar role in product management or a technical role.

    • Delivery focused with the ability to work autonomously to make things happen. You can efficiently manage projects end-to-end.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to think outside the box.

    • Excellent communication skills, you tailor your communication style and the technical detail according to your audience.

    • You are a team player with a fine balance of confidence, gravitas, humility and enthusiasm.

    • A strong numerical or technical background

  • Bonus skills:

    • Experience in finance, financial technology, payments, or accounting

Compensation:

We expect to pay from £60,000 - £80,000 for this role. However, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates and regularly remunerate staff for their increasing value to our business.

Benefits:

We prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, investing in the professional development of our team members. You'll have access to ample opportunities for skill-building, mentorship, and career progression. Our friendly and inclusive environment, combined with our flexible work policies, ensures that you'll have the perfect balance between work and life.

What We Do

iwoca was founded to expand possibilities for small businesses.

At iwoca, we believe finance should feel like a superpower, not a headache. That’s why our founders, Chris and James, decided to create a solution custom-built for small businesses. One that strips out the hassle, gets to know what each business needs, and looks for opportunities rather than problems. One that provides access to finance where and when your business needs it.

Our partner integrations and our Lending API mean we can provide access to finance where and when small businesses need it. Our award winning credit risk engine help us make faster, more accurate credit decisions built around the performance of the business.

We are proud to be NACFB Lender of the year, Xero Financial Services App of the year and, most recently, winner of the £10m Banking Competition Remedies grant.

Since 2012, we’ve made funding available to over 50,000 businesses, from cafés to car dealers, salons to solicitors. But we’ve only just started. Our mission is to fund one million small businesses.
