The driving force behind our success has always been the people of AspenTech. What drives us, is our aspiration, our desire and ambition to keep pushing the envelope, overcoming any hurdle, challenging the status quo to continually find a better way. You will experience these qualities of passion, pride and aspiration in many ways — from a rich set of career development programs to support of community service projects to social events that foster fun and relationship building across our global community.

The RoleAspenTech is looking for a Product Owner to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) group, building the next generation of solutions that help refinery and petrochemical companies optimize their value chain. As a Principal Software Developer, you will provide technical and product leadership—partnering with Product Management and other Product Owners to define features and use cases, shape product workflows, create lightweight mockups, and guide development teams to deliver valuable, usable capabilities for our customers.
A strong software development background and understanding of modeling and optimization principles are essential. Knowledge of refinery/petrochemical processes and supply chain and distribution modeling will help you translate customer business priorities and technical workflows into clear, implementable solutions.

Your Impact
  • Lead feature and use‑case development with Product Management: define problem statements, scope MVPs, write user stories and acceptance criteria, and align priorities to customer value.
  • Ensure development teams deliver customer value by clarifying outcomes, slicing features for incremental delivery, and validating usability through internal reviews and customer feedback.
  • Provide technical leadership on modeling, optimization, architecture, and implementation.
  • Drive engineering excellence across code quality, testing strategies, CI/CD, observability, performance, and secure design.
  • Collaborate in SAFe Agile: lead/participate in PI Planning, Backlog Refinement, Iteration Planning, Reviews, and Inspect & Adapt; manage dependencies and risks to meet PI Objectives.
  • Partner across functions (Product Marketing, Services, Support, Customer Success) to ensure features are well‑positioned, adoptable, and measurable post‑release.
  • Mentor engineers and feature leads, develop shared patterns, and elevate the team’s capability in workflow/feature design and delivery discipline.
  • Participate in maintenance and enhancement of existing codebases, ensuring continuity and modernization where appropriate.
What You'll Need
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of professional software development experience, including technical leadership or feature leadership in enterprise/industrial products.
  • Proficiency with SAFe Agile practices and tools; comfortable with story mapping, WSJF/lean prioritization, and iterative delivery s a must.
  • Experience or knowledge in the chemical, refinery, or petrochemical industries (e.g., planning & scheduling, optimization, blending, supply & distribution, logistics) is a strong plus.
  • Strong software development skills with C# and modern software development (.NET, Web API, SQL Server, cloud technologies, microservices).
  • Understanding of numerical methods and mathematical modeling/optimization (e.g., LP/MILP/MINLP, simulation) is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to translate business priorities and technical workflows into actionable features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
  • Solid understanding of modern architecture concepts (REST APIs, microservices, containers/orchestration, CI/CD, telemetry/observability).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong project management skills: scoping, dependency and risk management, stakeholder alignment, and delivery tracking.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SAFe certifications (e.g., SAFe POPM, SAFe Practitioner) and/or PMP/PMI‑ACP.
