The Product Manager, Shared Services owns Clearwater's Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platform and a growing portfolio of shared platform services that power the broader product ecosystem. CIAM is the anchor of this role -- a mission-critical, cross-cutting platform that underpins authentication, authorization, SSO, and identity governance across all of Clearwater's products. In addition to CIAM, this PM will take ownership of other shared platform capabilities as the team's mandate expands over time. Examples of shared services in scope today include white-labeling, app navigation, app manager, and audit service -- with more expected as the platform grows.
Shared platform services at Clearwater serve a dual set of customers: the external clients who use these capabilities directly and whose feedback drives the roadmap, and the internal product teams who depend on shared services to build their own products. This PM will engage regularly with both audiences -- understanding client needs in the field, collaborating with internal teams on platform requirements, and driving execution across mature services and net-new builds to ensure the platform scales with demand and operates with excellence.
Responsibilities
Own the CIAM product roadmap end-to-end: define vision, prioritize capabilities, and drive delivery across authentication, authorization, SSO, user lifecycle management, and identity governance.
Engage directly with external clients: speak with Clearwater clients to understand how they use shared platform services, gather feedback on existing capabilities, identify unmet needs, and translate client input into roadmap priorities across the portfolio.
Expand and steward the Shared Services portfolio: as the team's mandate grows, take ownership of additional shared platform capabilities -- ensuring consistent product standards, clear service contracts, and reliable delivery across all services.
Lead net-new product development: drive discovery, definition, and launch of new shared services, from identifying the problem space through to adoption by clients and internal teams.
Manage a complex, multi-service backlog: balance client-driven requests, run-the-business (RTB) work, platform health improvements, and strategic new capabilities across CIAM and adjacent services.
Serve as the connective tissue between engineering and stakeholders: translate needs from both external clients and internal product teams into clear requirements and communicate roadmap decisions back to all stakeholders with appropriate context.
Define requirements and acceptance criteria: write user stories, epics, and feature specs that engineering can act on with clarity and confidence.
Collaborate with engineering on platform design: engage on service architecture, integration patterns, technical design, and feasibility -- bringing a product perspective to infrastructure decisions.
Establish and track success metrics: define what good looks like for each service across reliability, adoption, client satisfaction, and business impact -- and hold the roadmap accountable to those metrics.
Communicate roadmap and releases: maintain a regular cadence of roadmap updates and release communications to clients, dependent product teams, and leadership.
Partner on operational resilience: work with engineering on on-call coverage, incident response, and RTB priorities for critical platform services.
Required Skills
CIAM / identity domain expertise: strong understanding of CIAM concepts including authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML), SSO, user lifecycle management, and identity security best practices. Direct product ownership of a CIAM platform is strongly preferred.
Client engagement: comfortable engaging directly with enterprise clients across the full product lifecycle -- listening to feedback, running discovery conversations, presenting roadmaps, and translating client needs into actionable product requirements.
Platform PM mindset: experience owning shared services or platform products that serve both external clients and internal teams as customers.
Systems thinking: ability to reason about service contracts, integrations, and shared infrastructure, and understand how product decisions affect upstream and downstream teams.
Cross-team stakeholder management: skilled at gathering requirements from and aligning priorities across multiple product teams with competing needs.
Technical literacy: sufficient to engage credibly with engineers on architecture, service design, and infrastructure trade-offs. Coding not required.
Backlog management: strong experience prioritizing a complex, multi-workstream backlog in an agile/scrum environment.
Communication: excellent written and verbal communication skills; can translate technical decisions for clients and business stakeholders, and client needs for engineering.
Data-driven prioritization: experience defining service-level metrics and using data to inform roadmap trade-offs.
AI fluency: actively uses AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, or equivalent) to accelerate PM workflows -- from writing specs and synthesizing research to analyzing feedback and drafting communications. Comfort with AI-assisted ways of working is expected.

Bachelor's/master's degree in engineering or a related field.
