Defence represents one of Emesent’s most significant strategic growth opportunities, and we are investing in the product capability needed to capture and expand that market. You’ll be the product manager driving our defence strategy, working directly with our co-founder. Your job is to find the right opportunities and create alignment around them. You’ll lead the discovery work that separates a promising hunch from a commercially validated bet, and translate what you learn into a clear product direction the team can execute against. This is a high-autonomy role with significant leadership interest — you will operate with limited guidance and your judgement will shape where we invest.
What you’ll do
- Discovery & Opportunity Validation: Lead the discovery work that turns early signal into a validated opportunity. Run structured experiments, customer conversations, and assumption tests that de-risk the bet before we commit further investment. Bring back evidence, not opinion
- Customer & Market Insight: Deeply understand our users’ workflows, pain points, and environments. Conduct field visits, user research, and competitive analysis to ensure product decisions are grounded in real-world evidence
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Drive alignment across the business —engineering, commercial, and leadership. Get buy-in for important initiatives and manage upwards with clarity
- Go-to-Market Execution: Partner with commercial and marketing teams to develop positioning, pricing, and launch strategies. Ensure users and internal teams are well-prepared for every release
- Product Analytics: Define and monitor key product metrics. Use quantitative and qualitative data to inform decisions, measure outcomes, and continuously improve the user experience.
What you’ll bring
- 4+ years of experience in product management, with demonstrated ownership of a product or product area end-to-end
- Demonstrated strength in discovery and opportunity validation — you can show how you’ve separated real opportunities from false starts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
- Proven ability to work effectively with engineering teams and translate technical complexity into clear product direction
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority across functions and seniority levels
- Entrepreneurial mindset — you thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and have a strong bias for action
- Strong stakeholder management — comfortable working directly with a co-founder and a highly technical team, with the judgement to know when to push back and when to align
- Deep empathy for users and a passion for solving real-world problems in complex operating environments
- Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Amplitude, or similar.
Strongly regarded
- Experience in the defence industry. You’ve delivered technical products to defence users before, are familiar with how defence customers buy, their procurement landscape, and their regulatory environment.
- Experience with deep-tech or hardware-integrated products, where product decisions span physical and digital domains.
- Track record of zero-to-one product development — taking a product from concept through to launch and market traction.
- Experience in the mining, geospatial, or survey industries.
