The Private Computing and Encryption teams work across product, engineering, security, and safety to build advanced privacy products and infrastructure at OpenAI. Our mission is to provide world-class security features to users so their private data remains private, even from OpenAI. We use technologies like confidential computing, trusted execution environments, and end-to-end encryption to ship product features across ChatGPT, the API, and our future consumer devices.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced, technical product manager to shape our privacy strategy and deliver advanced encryption-based privacy features at rapid speed across ChatGPT, API, and future consumer devices.

In this role, you will:

  • Shape the company strategy and set the industry standard on AI privacy.

  • Deliver novel encryption-based privacy features across ChatGPT, API, and our future consumer devices at rapid speed.

  • Work closely with an industry-leading team of researchers, engineers, and security experts to build core privacy technologies such as private inference and end-to-end encryption.

  • Work closely with our safety, integrity, and legal teams to develop novel privacy-preserving safety features and balance difficult trade-offs.

  • Work closely with a range of industry partners including cloud providers, GPU manufacturers, and security researchers.

  • Partner with leadership, marketing, and global affairs to communicate OpenAI’s privacy values with our customers, industry professionals, and policymakers.

  • Have 10+ years of product management or related industry experience.

  • Have prior experience in private computing, trusted execution environments, and end-to-end encryption.

  • Lead with user empathy, a strategic mindset, and ability to balance equities across product, privacy, and safety.

  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset and adaptability, whether from startup or high-growth company environments.

  • Demonstrate strong product intuition, making thoughtful prioritization and sequencing decisions.

  • Have world-class communication and collaboration skills in working with a wide variety of cross-functional stakeholders.

Workplace & Location

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
