The Opportunity

As a Product Manager II, you will own a strategic area within our product, partnering with a team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, design, marketing, and your peers on the product team to deliver creative solutions that allow Root to grow profitably and offer a better customer experience to the widest range of customers possible.
The ideal candidate will have a strong alignment to our product vision, an analytical mindset, and experience working cross-functionally to identify opportunities and deliver solutions that unlock customer value. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lead effectively across functions. This position reports to the director of product and requires regular interactions with the executive leadership including our founder and CEO.

Salary Range: $111,800 - $135,000 (Bonus Eligible)
How You Will Make an Impact

Partner with research and design to better understand customer needs for your strategic product area

Advocate for solving our customer needs throughout the product development process, if it doesn’t help them it doesn’t help us.

Work across product, operations, user experience design, analytics, and core engineering teams to identify the highest-leverage customer and business problems in and around your specific product area

Create, manage, and adapt the operating plan and product roadmap

Lead a team of engineers to drive the full product lifecycle, spanning ideation, design, implementation, testing, and iteration

Collaborate with key business stakeholders across the business

Maintain continuous discovery and evaluation of new ideas, insights, and feature candidates

Write product requirement documentation (PRDs) that drive clarity of the why and what

Cultivate a product area backlog with ruthless prioritization using product frameworks

Manage dependencies between product areas and find creative ways to bring products to market

Facilitate team delivery events using agile delivery practices

Understand the health of your product area with data and customer feedback.

Maintain reporting and communication to peers and leadership
What You Will Need to Succeed

2+ years of product management experience; insurance experience a plus
-
Expert in SQL - able to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets

Familiarity with enterprise software product development lifecycle

Product domain expertise spanning the customer discovery, planning, and product development process; deep understanding of customer-centric product practices

Highly analytical; excel at leveraging customer research and analytics to drive product decisions

Superior problem-solving skills with ability to think strategically and innovatively

Detail-oriented; ability to multitask and prioritize projects

Roll-up-the sleeves work ethic and “do-what-it takes” attitude to efficiently execute and drive for results in a fast-paced work environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Exceptional leadership skills; naturally collaborative, excelling at influencing without direct authority

Experience with AWS best practices preferred

The launch of Carvana Insurance Built with Root delivers an elevated customer experience made possible through a deep integration that pre-fills key customer information so that a customer can skip data entry and jump directly to evaluating quotes and customizing coverage. This fully embedded product experience—from quote to payment—happens entirely within the Carvana checkout process. Teams from both Carvana and Root have worked for months to build this bold technology platform. An early iteration involved 24 screens in the customer experience flow—that experience is now just three straightforward steps.
