Job Summary: 

The Product Launch Engineer is a member of the Product Development Group. The Engineer is responsible for those technical and development functions to ensure PTC effectively provides quality products meeting customers’ specifications and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support of plant and company manufacturing process capability improvement activities related to product and material capabilities.
  • Involvement in the front-end product realization processes, involving customer specifications, feasibility, product contract and specification review, and Oracle Item builds.
  • Participation in product and manufacturing trials in support of product development.
  • Collaborative interaction with Sales, Planning, Operations, Metallurgy, and customers to properly design and manufacture products.
  • Collection, analysis and report-out of data and analysis results related to product development and plant process improvements. This may require the use of statistical methods.
  • Develop reports, procedures and training materials, as needed.
  • Efficiency - Plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient, productive manner.  Focuses on key priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements: 

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).

Experience:

2 years minimum experience in product development and/or technical services preferred. (Steel, Tubular, or Automotive industries preferred)

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience with steelmaking, metalworking and fabricating processes preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of GD&T, ability to interpret drawings.
  • Familiarity with 2D/3D CAD. (Siemens Solid Edge or equivalent).
  • AIAG & PPAP experience.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Hands-on gage usage, product inspection.
  • CNC or CMM programming is a plus.
  • Materials knowledge (specifically steel metallurgy) is a plus.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply basic algebraic concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning and Problem-Solving Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and specifications in written or diagram form, including drawings, and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Must be computer literate and able to work with standard programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.), and be able to learn and use the company’s ERP software, as applicable.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however employees are expected to spend significant time in the plant’s manufacturing areas where noise levels may be high.
