We are looking for Product Investigators to join our Vehicle Safety and Product Analysis team. These positions are primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive technical investigations related to vehicle safety and compliance.


The Vehicle Safety and Product Analysis team is a collaborative group which works with many different functional groups to effectively manage and lead all potential vehicle safety and non compliance product investigations to determine root cause and related information.

The Product Investigations Lead will oversee vehicle safety product investigations, strategies and processes within NA and across the global regions. This Lead will be accountable for the initiation and support of field actions, and providing technical expertise, communication and coordination of Electrical based items. The Lead will be responsible to ensure investigations are thorough and complete and ensure data is documented properly. The selected candidate will participate in the hiring of product investigator positions and ensure team members are properly trained and capable to conduct thorough investigations. The Lead will lead special project and workshops in support of the Vehicle Safety Group's continuous initiatives and will support the Manager, Director, and key stakeholders to determine   and compile relevant information to be shared at Investigation Review Meeting ("IRM”), Vehicle Regulatory Committee ("VRC") meetings, town halls, team events and staff meetings.


The Investigation Lead ensures investigation data is complete, accurate and supports the recommendation.   Presentations are clear, concise and appropriate to the audience.  Activity is conducted for Electrical Investigations.


Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assesses inputs and initial data
  • Guide investigators on working with internal teams and lead cross functional teams (e.g., Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Service and Legal) to gather critical data as part of the investigation of product related fire events
  • Guide investigators on their interactions with internal and external teams to determine the root cause, scope, consequence and corrective actions for vehicle conditions as is
  • Assist in searching and analyzing field data from corporate databases to support investigative work
  • Oversee and guide the preparation of documents, reports, presentations and demonstrations for discussions with management and/or governmental agencies
  • Maintain thorough and complete records on internal databases
  • Engage subject matter experts necessary to support analysis to obtain components and technical information from subject matter experts necessary to support analysis
Preferred Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or another related technical field from an ABET accredited Other degrees and educational credentials, in combination with relevant engineering experience, may also be considered
  • A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience
  • Strong leadership behaviors to lead high level and large group initiatives
  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to critical deadlines
  • Advanced problem solving and root cause analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • Forensic experience, preferably automotive related
  • Full understanding of the organization's structure, processes, goals and responsibilities
  • Able to simplify and communicate complicated matters
  • Technical background with strong project management skills Strategic, big picture vision and able to make tough calls Coaching and leadership skills
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of FMVSS standards
