BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Product Failure Engineer at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Product Change Management:

Specific for Mechanical PFE:

  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) in SAP for all components and assemblies, including appropriate documentation and software versions.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of BOMs to support manufacturing and procurement processes.
  • Update BOMs based on change requests and improvements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

General:

  • Provide technical support to the factory for any necessary changes to the product (correction, update, cost reduction, implementation, and risk assessment) within the scope of series products, working with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in PFMEA/DFMEA and in the definition of special product characteristics.
  • Coordinate the planning and production of prototypes during pre-series in conjunction with product changes and support alternative product solutions.
  • Act as the connection with the Technical Centers.

Cost Reduction:

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction in product design.

Failure Analysis:

  • Set up frames for root cause analysis on product failures and support the implementation of corrective actions alongside a multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and elaborate test plans to identify potential or current failure modes and provide guidance to the laboratory team to execute plans.
  • Apply statistical problem-solving tools.

Claims and Field Analysis:

  • Support the investigation and analysis of mechanical product claims and field issues to determine root causes.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to address identified issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product reliability based on field data.
  • Establish tear-down procedures for failure analysis.

Production Support:

  • Provide support for new product and process launches and serial production in change management-related topics.
  • Apply continuous improvement and lessons learned between projects.
  • Evaluate product risk assessments and rework procedures.

Requirements & Competencies

  • Academic Background
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or Materials Engineering
  • Professional Experience (Years and area)
  • Minimum of years of experience in product engineering, applications engineering, testing, production engineering preferred
  • Proven experience in product development and failure analysis in the automotive industry is a plus
  • Experience with automotive industry standards and regulations.
  • Hard Skills (ex: Excel,…)
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office Tools
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP
  • Knowledge in problem solving methodologies such as 8D, PDCA, 5Whys, Failure Tree Analysis and Fishbone Analysis
  • Ability schematics – electrical and mechanical
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools such as CAD software (Inventor, AutoCad, Solidworks)
  • Knowledge in Statistical Tools Minitab user or Excel
  • Programming languages – C, C#, Python and others is preferred
