Advantest develops, manufactures, and markets advanced semiconductor test solutions, including Pick-and-Place (P&P) handlers and Die Level Probers (DLP) from Device Handling (DH) team. The Product Engineer (PE) is responsible for the full lifecycle of DH products – handler and probers - from customer engagement and requirements definition through product development, deployment, validation, and post-sales support. This role requires a strong combination of hardware and software aptitude, cross-functional coordination, and the ability to collaborate effectively with global development teams.
The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with good people skills, capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment across different departments/customers in different time zones, driving product development efforts, willing and able to travel domestically and internationally to support customers globally, requiring flexible work hours.
Responsibilities:
Product Development & Customer Support
- Partner with customers and account teams to capture, document, and communicate product handling requirements to R&D. Convert customer requirements and schedules into development plans.
- Create and maintain customer relationships to encourage closer collaboration, gather meaningful feedback and identify potential business opportunities
- Develop and maintain specifications for DH platforms and product families.
- Support product design, prototyping, validation, and DFMA activities. Evaluate prototypes, drive design improvements, and enhance product reliability and safety.
- Lead failure analysis investigations, publish findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, and lead customer-driven continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and develop innovative product concepts and support commercialization with R&D.
Support Field Service Teams
- Collect, analyze, and present handler performance data.
- Provide site preparation guidance and recommendations.
- Support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair activities at customer sites.
- Develop and deliver technical training to field support teams.

- Perform equipment installation, maintenance, and repair activities requiring frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, and full-body mobility.
- Move parts and equipment as required, with assistance available for items exceeding 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated skill in product engineering, equipment development, or related technical roles.
- Fluent in English.
Beneficial Qualities:
- Experience supporting Automated Test Equipment (ATE), such as V93000 platforms, P&P handlers and probers.
- Experience with thermal systems, evaluation methods, and instrumentation.
- Japanese language proficiency.
