POSITION SUMMARY

The Product Engineer creates manufacturing designs and manages assigned customer projects from contract review through fabrication, shipment, and closeout. The role combines product engineering with hands-on project ownership, including planning, customer communication, cross-functional coordination, risk identification, status verification, documentation, and timely escalation. Senior Product Engineers and engineering leadership provide support for complex or high-risk projects.

Responsibilities

· Create production drawings and 3D CAD models from customer requirements and initial product concepts.

· Review RFQ opportunities and support sales with technical expertise and quoting.

· Review contract requirements, drawings, and specifications and ensure accurate transfer of information to engineering, quality, purchasing, and production.

· Improve product designs for manufacturability, performance, quality, cost, and customer requirements.

· Provide engineering oversight during fabrication and resolve questions or technical issues as they arise.

· Collaborate with vendors to evaluate materials, manufacturing options, and customer solutions.

Project Manager

· Serve as the project owner for assigned customer projects and remain accountable from contract review and kickoff through shipment and closeout.

· Develop and maintain a practical project plan with milestones, deliverables, owners, due dates, dependencies, schedule requirements, and known budget constraints.

· Lead kickoff meetings for assigned projects with the required internal stakeholders and involve the customer when appropriate.

· Manage multiple assigned projects simultaneously and maintain accurate priorities, action items, and follow-up.

· Track milestones, deliverables, schedule performance, project changes, and available cost information; elevate concerns to the Senior Product Engineer or engineering leadership.

· Maintain detailed project records, including specifications, approvals, meeting decisions, action logs, risks, changes, and status updates.

Execution, Communication and Risk  

· Maintain regular contact with production and verify project status through direct observation and discussion with source owners.

· Identify technical, material, quality, schedule, and resource risks early; document them and coordinate mitigation actions.

· Assign and document action owners and due dates, confirm completion, and escalate unresolved barriers promptly.

· Provide concise updates stating what changed, what is at risk, what action is required, who owns it, and when it is due.

· Coordinate engineering, production, purchasing, quality, sales, and suppliers to keep assigned projects aligned and moving forward.

· Serve as the day-to-day technical and project contact for assigned customers, communicating status, design changes, questions, risks, and issue resolution.

· Support ship-plan development and communicate potential delivery impacts through the appropriate internal channels.

· Travel occasionally to customer or supplier sites to support technical reviews and project execution.

Standards and Development

· Use established project management templates, reporting standards, engineering practices, and escalation paths consistently.

· Participate in project reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement activities.

· Seek support from a Senior Product Engineer or engineering leadership when technical complexity, risk, customer impact, or business exposure exceeds assigned authority or experience.

· Develop project leadership capability and contribute to continuity of product and process knowledge

Requirements

· Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, or similar education combined with relevant experience.

· Knowledge of manufacturing materials and practices; welding and metal fabrication knowledge preferred.

· Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.

· Ability to organize and monitor schedules, actions, risks, project documentation, and basic cost information.

· Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, organizational, and fact-based decision-making skills.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills, including concise customer and stakeholder updates.

· Ability to manage multiple projects, work cross-functionally, influence action without direct authority, and follow issues through closure.

· Strong attention to detail and willingness to maintain active engagement with the manufacturing floor.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to sit, stand, and climb stairs daily.

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

· Ability to work effectively in office and manufacturing environments.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and periods of stress while maintaining professionalism and performance.
