This PVT Engineering position is a member of Ford Motor Company's Product Development organization located at the Chicago Assembly Plant (CAP) along with the Operations team. The PVT Engineer at Chicago is the 'first line of defense', analyzing and improving the quality of the Explorer, Aviator, and Police Interceptor products manufactured at CAP, with a focus on product design.  This role has responsibility for the V48 (Transmission) and V51 (Driveline) Vehicle Functional Groups (VFGs), with opportunities to learn the other IPTSE/UnSE systems. 

Responsibilities

In this position...

 

  • Review external quality data supporting the warranty Central Triage Team and Working Quality Reviews, contact dealerships for parts and repair diagnoses, participate in customer call back to ensure proper understanding of customer inputs in Quality surveys, review returned parts for root cause analysis

  • Lead and Support Problem-Solving activities via disciplined methods such as 8D, A3, Six Sigma, with supporting tools.

  • Develop Interim Containment and Permanent Corrective Actions based on internal and external quality data.

  • Support assembly plant with Stop Ships/Stop Builds, Campaigns, Audits, Root Cause Analysis and other Quality issues.

  • Maintain sub-system or Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) level Quality documents and drive the achievement of quality targets.

  • Lead engineering design changes for future minor product launches.

 

What you'll do...

 

  • Support Variability Reduction Team (VRT) for specific sub-systems and work closely with Supplier partners for sub-system components to address quality concerns

  • Lead engineering trials and the implementation of running changes and Supplier Requests for Engineering Authorization (SREA) for the sub-system

  • Issue engineering Alerts and initiate & pursue authorization of engineering Concerns for product changes to support Quality objectives

  • Engage technical experts and functional team members for driving resolution and in developing corrective actions to improve product quality

  • Create and deliver presentations to various levels of management (weekly VRT report out, Vehicle Quality Reviews, Engineering Manager/Chief/Director reviews)

Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with quality containment and corrective action processes, including root cause analysis and driving interim/permanent corrective actions.

  • Ability to establish a systems engineering approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent presentation/communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with quality and engineering systems such as GSAR, JIRA, QED, AIMS, WERS, and IRIS/SIMPSN, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Familiarity with AI tools.
  • Engineering Problem Solving; root cause identification and analysis, developing Containment Actions and Permanent Corrective Actions.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
