Join Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) as a Product Designer

Location: Lysaker, Norway |   Type: Full-time, Hybrid

Join our global team for a career filled with opportunities to solve challenges both small and large, local and global, simple and complex. We are looking for a Product Designer to join our Digital team at Wilhelmsen Ships Service.

As a Product Designer, you will take ownership of the user experience in our digital products. You will work end-to-end across the design process, from understanding user needs and vessel operations, to designing high quality interfaces and collaborating with software engineers, product managers and other stakeholders to bring solutions to life. You won’t just design screens; you will help shape the direction of the product and how we solve real world challenges in the maritime industry.

About us

Wilhelmsen Ships Service delivers products and services essential for vessel operations, from cleaning chemicals to welding equipment and mooring ropes. Through our global logistics network, we support vessels in more than 2,000 ports worldwide.

Our Digital team builds customer- and vessel-facing solutions that support both maritime operations and the digital customer journey with Wilhelmsen Ships Service. This includes operational tools like Line Management Plan for mooring operations and Waterproof for water treatment onboard vessels, as well as digital solutions that simplify how customers search for, purchase, and manage our products.

We are continuously improving our webshop and digital interfaces to enable more seamless, self-service customer journeys, from product discovery and ordering to tracking and follow-up. We also work with innovations that are shaping the maritime industry, leveraging image recognition to assess rope condition and guide retirement decisions, while exploring AI to enhance service efficiency and response times for our customers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Understand users, customers, and vessel workflows through research

  • Design intuitive solutions that support both operational use onboard vessels and digital customer journeys such as product discovery, ordering, and post-purchase follow-up

  • Design user journeys, information architecture, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity interfaces

  • Collaborate closely with software developers to ensure high-quality implementation

  • Iterate based on user feedback, insights and data to enhance the user experience

  • Contribute to our design system by proposing improvements and ensuring consistency across products

We’re looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Product Designer / UX/UI Designer

  • Experience across the end-to-end design process, from user research and concept definition to delivery and implementation

  • Strong skills in interaction and UI design

  • Ability to make design decisions that balance user needs, business goals and technical constraints.

  • Experience working with engineering, product management, and other stakeholders across product development.

  • Proficiency in Figma or similar design tools

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

  • Interest in the maritime industry, shipping, or vessel operations

  • Relevant education

A strong plus if you also have...

  • Experience designing complex or B2B products

  • Understanding of front-end development and design handover

  • Experience with design systems and scalable design practices

How we work:

We believe in autonomous product teams with strong ownership, where designers, product managers, and software engineers work closely together to shape solutions. You will not only contribute with design execution, but also help define direction, challenge decisions, and improve how we work as a team.

Everyone in the team has the freedom to propose initiatives that enhance our digital strategy. You will primarily work as the dedicated designer in one (or more) autonomous product teams, with full ownership of the design within that product. In addition, you will contribute to cross-team initiatives with other designers, helping improve design practices, the design system, and the overall user experience across products.

What we offer:

Working at Wilhelmsen can offer a culture and work environment of strong leadership, career development, work-life balance and a job that is both challenging and stimulating. Beyond this, benefits in Norway include, but are not limited to:

  • Competitive salary and an attractive pension plan

  • Flexible working hours and location

  • Company cabins in both winter and summer locations

  • Our very own sports organization for employees, WIL, with activities such as kayaking, squash, football, yoga and much more (pub-crawls and skiing-trips)

  • Gym and indoor court in the basement of the offices (football every Friday at lunch)

  • Perks such as a paid mobile subscription and health insurance

Please note: As part of the application process, you may be subject to reference and additional background checks
