WHO WE ARE

GridUnity is the industry leader in interconnection life cycle management, delivering cutting-edge software solutions that eliminate bottlenecks in the interconnection process and accelerate the transition to a more affordable, sustainable, and resilient energy future.

Our Mission

We unite all grid interconnection stakeholders on a single platform that converts centralized data into actionable intelligence and accelerates the transition to a reliable, sustainable, and cost-efficient electric grid.

GridUnity is a trusted partner to leading utilities, grid operators, and policymakers. Our technology solutions tackle the interconnection queue backlog by significantly reducing processing times. Whether cutting transmission interconnection timelines from years to months or enabling distribution applications to be processed within a day, we help accelerate energy projects at every scale.

Our Vision
Energizing the planet with a faster, smarter, and more sustainable grid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Product Designer, you will own the end-to-end user experience across GridUnity’s portfolio of products, with accountability for UX quality, coherence, and usability across individual features and the broader platform. You will partner closely with Product Owners, Engineering, and the Insights team to design intuitive, coherent journeys that support complex interconnection and planning activities between and across diverse customer segments.

This role is foundational to GridUnity’s product strategy as we continue to productize and scale our platform while driving innovation and AI-persona-based assistance and automation into the highly regulated and operationally complex customer environments serving the energy sector.

You will report to the Director of Product Management and work as a core member of the Portfolio team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESOwn UX quality, coherence, and platform consistency
  • Own the definition and evolution of the user experience across GridUnity’s platform, ensuring clarity, usability, and consistency across technologies, features, workflows, and shared platform patterns.

  • Establish and maintain UX patterns, interaction models, and design standards that support product scalability and reuse and development speed.

  • Serve as the primary steward of UX standards and best practices, enabling consistent, high-quality experiences across teams and product areas.

  • Define and track UX success metrics, using qualitative and quantitative insights to evaluate experience quality and inform continuous improvement.

  • Communicate UX insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership to inform product decisions.

Translate insights into experiences
  • Partner with Product Owners to translate product strategy, roadmap priorities, and requirements into clear user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.

  • Collaborate with the Insights team to incorporate market, regulatory, and Voice of Customer insights into experience design.

Lead user-centered discovery and risk identification
  • Plan and conduct user research (e.g., interviews, workflow walkthroughs, usability testing) to validate assumptions and uncover UX risks and opportunities, with an emphasis on real-world workflows, edge cases, and operational constraints.

  • Synthesize findings into actionable design recommendations that inform product decisions.

Partner through delivery and implementation
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure designs are feasible, well understood, and faithfully implemented, including consideration of edge cases, error states, data availability, permissions, and system constraints.

  • Support iterative delivery through design reviews, feedback cycles, and post-release UX evaluation.

Support platform evolution and long-term UX integrity
  • Help guide UX decisions during platform transitions and major product evolution, ensuring continuity for users while strengthening long-term platform usability and coherence.

  • Balance configurability and standardization to support GridUnity’s productized approach.

  • Ensure platform longevity through documentation, guides, and best practices.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • 4+ years of experience designing user experiences for complex B2B or enterprise software

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX work (research, flows, interaction design, and delivered product)

  • Experience working closely with Product Management and Engineering in an Agile environment

  • Ability to design for complex workflows, data-heavy interfaces, and expert users

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and defend design decisions using evidence

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART
  • Experience designing products for regulated industries (energy, utilities, infrastructure, government, or similar)

  • Familiarity with SaaS platforms that balance standardization with customer-specific configuration

  • Experience supporting platform migrations or major product evolutions

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, scaling organization where processes are still being shaped

OUR CULTURE

We are a lean, fast-moving team that values bold thinking, reliability, and continuous learning. We operate with radical transparency, embrace scrappiness, and build solutions that anticipate customer needs. We also believe work should be fun and fulfilling — what we call “funfillment.”

The right candidate is energized by working in a scaling, mission-driven company where they can shape processes, wear multiple hats, and grow alongside the business.

BENEFITS/PERKS

  • Remote-first culture that provides flexibility and balance

  • Professional development opportunities, including training, mentorship, and career pathing

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance starting day one

  • Short- and long-term disability and basic life insurance at no cost to you

  • 401(k) plan with a 4% match to help secure your future

  • Flexible PTO and a supportive work culture that values balance

  • Mission-driven work with the opportunity to make a significant impact in the energy sector
