About Matter Intelligence

Welcome to Matter, where we are building the future of vision AI: pairing a world-first sensor that sees molecular chemistry, temperature, and 3D shape with a Large World Model that will be the most powerful intelligence engine for the physical world. This system doesn't just see what something looks like; it understands everything from a single pixel. We call this Superintelligent Vision.

Our team has delivered technologies to Mars for NASA/JPL, designed advanced sensors for U.S. Defense, and frontier artificial intelligence systems. We are now building the next generation of space- and airborne-based sensing systems.

About the Role

Matter is hiring a Product Designer to make complex physical-world intelligence clear, useful, and actionable for customers. Working with the Product Intelligence team and Ignacio Cases Martin, this role will shape workflows, interfaces, prototypes, and design systems for products that turn high-dimensional sensing data into operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead user research and workflow discovery with customers, product leaders, engineers, and domain experts.

  • Translate complex data and analytical capabilities into clear information architecture, interactions, and interfaces.

  • Create prototypes and test concepts early enough to guide product and engineering decisions.

  • Partner closely with product and engineering through implementation, iteration, and quality review.

  • Build and maintain reusable design patterns and a coherent design system as the product surface expands.

QualificationsRequired
  • Experience designing data-rich software products or complex professional workflows.

  • Strong interaction, interface, information-architecture, prototyping, and visual-design skills.

  • Ability to turn ambiguous customer problems and technical constraints into simple, testable product concepts.

  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams.

Preferred
  • Experience with geospatial, industrial, scientific, analytical, AI-assisted, or operational decision products.

  • Experience designing for expert users who work with maps, imagery, time series, alerts, or complex datasets.

  • Experience contributing to or establishing a design system in an early-stage product organization.

What Success Looks Like
  • Customers can understand and act on Matter's intelligence without unnecessary complexity.

  • Product concepts are validated early and move into implementation with clear interaction and visual specifications.

  • The product develops a coherent set of patterns that improves speed and consistency across new workflows.

Location

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires onsite work.
