Product Designer @ AltaML
You'll be embedded on a product team with a PM and tech lead, not a design resource work gets thrown over the wall to. You're in the room from first discovery conversation through shipped product and every iteration after.
Ownership of usability risk is your job. The PM owns value and viability, the tech lead owns feasibility, you own whether users can actually use the product and whether they'll want to. On enterprise AI products, this is where most failures happen: users don't trust what they can't understand, and they quietly abandon what slows them down.
Discovery and prototypes are how you attack that risk. You'll sit in on client and end-user sessions, turn what you learn into prototypes fast, test them, and iterate. The bar isn't software that works, it's software people love to use.
Design happens within our shared design system, and you'll make it better: patterns that work go back into the system, and standards that fail real users get fixed so the same problem doesn't get rebuilt across ten other teams.
What We're Looking for
Shipped software people actually use. A portfolio with real products behind it, and you can talk about what users did with them, not just how they looked.
You prototype fast and think in iterations. Figma and AI-assisted design tools, working prototypes over static mocks, and you would rather test three rough versions this week than one polished version next month.
You want to be in discovery. Talking to users is the part of the job you protect, not the part you delegate.
You are good with engineers and good with users, and can move between the two without losing either.
Accessibility is part of your craft. We build for government and public sector clients where accessible design is a requirement, not a nice to have.
You create traction in a fast and sometimes messy environment. This is not a settled design org and it will not be for a while.

Skills Required
- Portfolio demonstrating shipped software products that real users used
- Experience with Figma and AI-assisted design tools
- Ability to create working prototypes rapidly and iterate based on user testing
- Willingness and ability to participate directly in user discovery and research sessions
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, clients, and end users
- Accessibility-focused product design experience or knowledge
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
