Position Overview:   

 

As a Product Designer within our Design Systems Team, you’ll be at the forefront of Target’s evolving digital experience, shaping it for our guests and contributing to business growth. Our Design System is a multi-platform system used by Target product teams to create engaging and consistent user experiences. You will contribute to the evolution of the Target Design System, including multi-platform libraries, design tokens, versioning, governance, and accessibility, maximizing user adoption and reusability. You will deliver exceptionally high quality, usable design components that drive efficiency and consistency across end-to-end guest and employee facing experiences.  

 

This role will join a team of passionate designers creating components and supporting partners across Target in creating robust, intuitive, and accessible experiences for our guests and team members. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with designers, developers, and product managers to contribute to the creation, maintenance, and evolution of reusable, responsive, and accessible design components. 

  • Design and document components and patterns in Figma, ensuring consistency with design tokens, proper use of variants, auto-layout, accessibility, and best practices. 

  • Ensure high-quality design assets by maintaining detailed documentation and usage guidelines that support teams in adopting the design system. 

  • Work closely with developers to align design and code, supporting the implementation of design system components. 

  • Contribute to education and training efforts by creating resources that promote best practices and adoption of the design system. 

  • Stay informed on design system trends, industry best practices, and platform-specific guidelines to enhance the system's evolution. 

 

  • Operate effectively within agile workflows, helping to prioritize work based on needs, resources, and capacity. 

  • Advocate for accessibility and usability best practices in all design system work. 

 

About you:   

  • 1+ years of experience working with design systems, with a portfolio showcasing contributions to component libraries and reusable design patterns. 

  • Strong knowledge of Figma and experience working within structured component libraries. 

  • Ability to collaborate with design, product, and engineering partners to implement and improve design system components. 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across a large-scale design system. 

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to document and present design decisions clearly. 

  • Understanding of responsive design, accessibility (WCAG standards), and platform-specific considerations for web, iOS, and Android. 

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to governance processes for maintaining a scalable design system.
