About Hauler Hero

Hauler Hero builds the operating system for residential and commercial waste haulers, including dispatch, routing, billing, payments, customer management, reporting, and the Road App that connects field operations with the back office.

Our customers are private hauler owners, operators, and municipal waste leaders running essential services every day. Many still manage their businesses through paper tickets, whiteboards, spreadsheets, disconnected systems, and legacy software. The result is missed revenue, messy routes, limited visibility, and too much time spent fighting fires instead of growing the business.

Today, we serve more than 240 haulers across the country and are scaling quickly. We are a well-funded, fast-moving vertical SaaS company bringing modern software to an essential industry where the customer need is clear and the opportunity is large.

About the Role

Hauler Hero is looking for a product designer who lives in mobile: someone who designs for thumbs, glanceable screens, spotty connectivity, and people working a route, not sitting at a desk.

You will focus on the Road App, the mobile experience drivers and field crews use every day, along with other field-facing tools. This is hands-on craft work, and it does not end at handoff. You will own mobile flows end to end: research, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and a clear engineering handoff. You will partner closely with engineering to ship, then stay connected to what happens next: Did it work? What did users and data tell us? What should change?

We are looking for a designer who feels ownership over product outcomes, not just screens.

Location and Work Style

This is a remote, full-time contractor role for candidates based in Latin America, with a preference for candidates in Argentina or similar U.S.-aligned time zones.

Candidates must have strong English writing and speaking skills, reliable high-speed internet, and availability to work during core U.S. business hours.

What You’ll Do
  • Design native-feeling mobile experiences for the Road App and other field-facing tools across both iOS and Android, with a strong command of each platform’s conventions and the judgment to know when to converge and when to diverge.

  • Take problems from ambiguity to shipped: synthesize research, map flows, design the interaction and visual layers, and document decisions clearly enough that engineering can build without guessing.

  • Talk directly with customers and field users, including drivers, dispatchers, and back-office staff, to ground your work in how the job actually gets done.

  • Plan and run usability testing on your designs; validate flows with real users, gather feedback, and iterate before and after launch.

  • Stay accountable to outcomes after launch: watch how features perform, learn from real usage and metrics, and drive iteration over time rather than moving on at handoff.

  • Design for real-world field conditions, including one-handed use, sunlight, gloves, intermittent connectivity, and high-frequency repeat tasks.

  • Work within and extend our design system, including semantic tokens and M3-based foundations for the Road App, keeping mobile components consistent and white-label-ready across haulers.

  • Prototype to communicate intent, and actively use AI tooling across the design process to move from insight to tested, build-ready solutions faster.

What We’re Looking For
  • A portfolio with shipped mobile work across iOS and Android you can walk us through, and evidence of the value it created: what shipped, how it performed, and how you iterated on it over time. We want to see a real connection to outcomes, not a handoff-and-done designer.

  • Fluency in both iOS and Android (Material Design) conventions and mobile interaction patterns, plus an eye for restraint over decoration.

  • Depth on the hard parts of a flow: configuration, edge, empty, and error states, and validation, not just the happy path.

  • Systems thinking: comfort working from tokens and components.

  • Comfort talking to users and running your own usability testing. You seek out real feedback rather than designing in a vacuum.

  • Clear process and communication: you document how you got there, not just what you made.

  • Demonstrated expertise with AI-assisted design workflows, not just comfort, but a real command of how to use these tools to accelerate the work, with your own design judgment leading.

Nice to Have
  • Experience designing for field operations, logistics, dispatch, route-based work, or other operational B2B products.

  • Familiarity with white-label or multi-tenant product design.

  • Ability to flex between a utilitarian B2B register and higher-craft polish when the moment calls for it.

What We Provide
  • Competitive contractor compensation.

  • A meaningful product challenge with direct access to customers and real-world users.

  • Real ownership: your work will ship quickly and be used every day by the people keeping essential services running.

  • A fast-moving, well-funded company where product design has a direct impact on the business and our customers.

Skills Required

  • Portfolio with shipped mobile work across iOS and Android showing outcomes and iterations
  • Fluency in iOS and Android (Material Design) conventions and mobile interaction patterns
  • Experience designing for edge, empty, error, configuration, and validation states (beyond happy path)
  • Systems thinking and comfort working from semantic tokens and component-based design systems
  • Ability to run usability testing, talk directly with users, and incorporate real user feedback
  • End-to-end ownership: research, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and clear engineering handoff
  • Demonstrated expertise with AI-assisted design workflows
  • Prototype to communicate intent and iterate with engineering
  • Strong English writing and speaking skills
  • Reliable high-speed internet and availability to work core U.S. business hours
  • Based in Latin America (preference for Argentina or similar U.S.-aligned time zones)
  • Experience designing for field operations, logistics, dispatch, or route-based work
  • Familiarity with white-label or multi-tenant product design
  • Ability to flex between utilitarian B2B and higher-craft polish when needed
