SUMMARY
Dyson are looking for a Senior Industrial Designer, Floor Care, to join our Global Design and Product Experience team. This role is based at our Shenzhen, China office. You will be highly knowledgeable of production, manufacturing processes, and materials development. You will champion design and user experience to other parts of the business. You will travel frequently to collaborate with our Research Design & Development teams as well as establish and build relationships with our global development and manufacturing network.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the look and feel of Dyson's products.
- Quickly visualise multiple design solutions at a very hi-resolution.
- Ensure design alignment and consistency through-out multiple projects.
- Support Design and Product Experience reviews with senior stakeholders.
- Be the voice of design while collaborating with Engineering and Product Management.
- Collaborate daily with our global network of designers and engineers.
- Negotiate and challenge development, manufacturing, and cost limitations.
- Evaluate DFM and direct tooling splits, gates, and ejector pin locations.
- Ensure delivery of products according to the established design vision.
- Create innovative design solutions that balance visuals, user-interaction, performance, manufacturing, and cost.
- Sweat the intricate details of the design while keeping the overall design intent in mind.
- Develop refined 3D surfaces for rendering, model building, and production.
- Deliver production A-class Surface CAD to Engineering and Tooling teams.
- Utilise digital and physical tools (models, physical rigs, renderings, 2D prints) to validate design solutions.
- Direct model making resource to accurately demonstrate and communicate solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent
- 5+ years of hands-on design experience.
- Skilled in sketching, form development, 3D surface quality, and 3D modelling.
- Skilled in 3D CAD applications (NX, Rhino, Alias, Solidworks, etc).
- Knowledgeable in continuous CAD surfacing theory.
- Skilled in rendering software (Keyshot, VRed, etc).
- Skilled in 2D design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, etc).
- Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes and down-stream product delivery.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to clearly present ideas both verbally and visually.
- Assertive and diplomatic – a great collaborator and receptive of constructive criticism.

Skills Required
- Background in UX/UI, interaction design, product design, HMI or related specialisms
- Strong digital design execution: interaction flows, wireframes, UI, prototypes
- Ability to work end-to-end from concept detailing through to production-ready assets
- Skilled in Figma with knowledge of rapid prototyping tools
- Experience collaborating with engineering or suppliers during product development
- Strong communication both English and Chinese
