WBTW News 13 is Myrtle Beach/Florence’s #1 rated news team on air and on digital. WBTW News 13, and a CBS Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Inc. News 13 is looking for an energetic and engaging Newscast Producer who we can train to master identifying pertinent news for our viewing area, produce content from our regional and national news partners, stack a newscast, work positively with reporters, write engaging copy and work with anchors and production team in a positive manner to lead for a successful newscast. The applicant must be willing to work any shift, including possibly weekends, early mornings or other shifts. The applicant should be a news “junky,” aware of the news landscape and the days local, national and international news. We’re looking for strong writing skills and the ability to work with a team in a positive manner. Overall, we're looking for a hard-working journalist and who can work within a team-oriented newsroom who can help us tell impactful stories here in Myrtle Beach/Florence. There will likely be a role affiliated with WBTW+, our CTV App.

WBTW serves eight northeastern South Carolina counties and two counties in North Carolina. WBTW is the market news leader and is consistently recognized for its highly accomplished news product. The station also produces a news for WFXB, the local FOX affiliate. With its low cost of living compared to other coastal cities, and a business-friendly environment, Myrtle Beach is an attractive place to live and work. Please have writing examples that you can include with the application. Applicants will be given a writing test as well.
The News Producer produces daily newscast items, decides the order in which stories will be told, writes teases and other content, times news programs, edits video, and posts video to the website.
- Produces newscasts for broadcast across all platforms
- Writes and orders news stories
- Approves scripts
- Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts
- Edits video
- Applicant should be a “news consumer” – aware of news and the ability to know where to find news
- Writes stories for the website and other eMedia platforms
- Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
- Takes an active role in assisting with new CTV App content
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Fluency in English
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Flexibility to work any shift
